Scottish Government has committed to new legislation on Scotland’s food system – but it was delayed as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. We need your help to fight for this new law to drive change in our food system.

Scotland boasts an incredible larder of food and drink – but what is the truth behind the marketing? The Scottish Food Coalition and A Greener Hawick believe that our food system needs to be fairer, greener healthier and more democratic – that our capacity to feed ourselves should not be compromised for private profit.

At the start of the new parliament we are recruiting a Good Food Nation Ambassador to engage with the Hawick community, increase awareness and momentum and campaign for brighter future for Scotland’s food system. Contacting candidates via phone, email or social media and ask them what they will do to address the challenges in our food system. Organising workshops to support local people to helping to ‘debunk’ questions, and supporting people to get their voices heard. Collecting stories from your community to illustrate the change we need to see in our food system. Working with existing local networks, with support from the Scottish Food Coalition, to publicise issues and recommendations locally, via social media, websites, press etc.

Restrictions

Experience required: This is a brilliant opportunity for somebody interested in developing their skills in campaigning, networking and political advocacy. The applicant needs to have an interest in Scotland’s food system and willingness to form strong networks in the local community. Event organisation experience, social media skills and campaigning experience is desirable but not essential.
Travel details: In and around the southern Scottish Borders.
