Dementia Friendly Awareness Raiser-Dumbarton

Description

We want to make West Dunbartonshire a Dementia Friendly authority. We believe anyone living with dementia and their carers should be supported to live well in the community, and feel able to access services and activities, as and when they choose to.
To help us share the message and build interest and support, we provide information and awareness sessions all across the area. We need volunteers, like you, to help us keep track of and deliver the sessions alongside our network of Dementia Ambassadors.

We will ask you to

  • Work with us to make sure every session enquiry is followed up
  • Help arrange the awareness diary - taking bookings and contacting session leaders
  • Make up information packs for local organisations
  • Help facilitate the sessions on the day (only if you want to)
  • Keep track of any dementia pledges made in the sessions

If you get involved we can offer you the chance to:

  • Meet new interesting people
  • Make a real difference in the lives of people in your community.

As a Third Sector Interface, WDCVS holds a unique position in supporting, promoting, developing and representing volunteering and sector activity across West Dunbartonshire.

Experience required: We are looking for - A people person - outgoing and happy to chat on the telephone or face to face - Someone with an interest in dementia and helping people stay involved - Some basic IT skills - basic inputting and emailing (training will be provided) - A good organiser - good with details

A dedicated venue will be provided for ships' crews to visit and access free soft/hot drinks, wi-fi, and interact with other crew members. This facility will be available in a central location from 10:00 - 20:00hrs each day from Tuesday 25th July - Saturday 29th July (closing at 13:00 on Saturday). Liaison staff will be required to assist crew members with any enquiries and to supervise the area.

Volunteer Befriender
  • Hanover Housing
The Volunteer Befriender helps residents who feel isolated or unable to get out very easily on their own by giving time on a one to one basis to help a person maintain social contact, provide companionship and reduce loneliness and social isolation. Volunteer befrienders build a positive relationship with an individual and visit them on a regular basis in their own flat. This could mean spending some time with a person for an hour or two every week/fortnight, we also encourage getting out and about for a coffee or short walk. Generally, befrienders are there to chat and get to know someone, have fun. Support the person to continue with existing interests, whilst encouraging them to embark on new activities. Volunteer duties: • Organising visits / trips out on a regular basis. • Support residents with their interests • Encourage residents to embark on new activities • Be a friend and have fun
