Absafe is a unique safety education charity dedicated to saving lives and reducing harm by instilling a positive safety culture in our communities and inspiring a passion for safety through education and engagement. No one else does what we do locally!

Our vision is for a safer future; free from life-changing unintentional injury and harm, with protective communities inspired by a passion for safety, so that no one has to learn by accident.

We are passionate about the power of educating in a participative and engaging environment, using fun to create lasting change in children’s lives and in the communities in which they live. We believe in the transformative impact that a positive safety culture can have on the health and prosperity of future generations.

Absafe provides health, safety and well-being education and risk awareness. Protecting people and places from harm, helping communities thrive by building a strong positive safety culture, and giving individuals the confidence, skills and attitudes to create a safer future.

We deliver a range of unique projects and interactive training programmes designed to inform, instruct and engage to reduce vulnerability to unintentional injury and harm, and support positive decision-making in relation to harmful behaviour.

We are looking for a Volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees, so we are able to continue to deliver education to the children and young people of Aberdeen, we would like you to have an interest in Education, health, safety risk management, and also health and wellbeing.

We are a small Charity and every member is important, joining Absafe means that you will be making a real difference to the children and young people of Aberdeen.

Organisation aims and objectives

Absafe works to advance safety, prevent accidents and save lives. This includes safety in the home, road and community. Absafe undertakes a range of work to promote safety. This includes innovative educational programmes at The Safe a purpose built, interactive village containing real life scenarios coupled with 21st century technology, with each zone specifically created to tackle a different safety issue. By exploring and interacting with 'real life' dangerous situations in a risk free environment, visitors experience an exciting, thrilling and memorable way to learn valuable safety lessons they can apply to their day-to-day lives.

Restrictions

Travel details: Absafe Board usually meets every quarter, during lockdown we have been doing this remotely and this could continue following lockdown which would mean there could be no travel commitments. The meetings are usually around two hours and any information required would be sent to you via email before the meeting. You would of course be most welcome to come onto site and see the great work that we do, we are based in Bridge of Don in Aberdeen.

A dedicated venue will be provided for ships' crews to visit and access free soft/hot drinks, wi-fi, and interact with other crew members. This facility will be available in a central location from 10:00 - 20:00hrs each day from Tuesday 25th July - Saturday 29th July (closing at 13:00 on Saturday). Liaison staff will be required to assist crew members with any enquiries and to supervise the area.

Peer support groups have various reasons for coming together. It may be to meet socially, take part in physical activity or learn how to live well with their condition. Each group is unique and tailored to the needs of its local community. Everyone involved with the group will have a say in how the group is run. Integrated Peer Support Groups are fully supported by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland. Tasks may include: · Acting as contact for CHSS if the Lead Volunteer is unavailable · Setting up and clearing the room · Organising refreshments · Taking the register and collecting subs · Meeting and greeting new members · Organising and taking part in the programme of activities · Supporting and taking part in fundraising e.g. raffles · Promoting the group · Using social media on behalf of the group · Working to the group’s health & safety and other procedures

Safer Ageing Volunteer
  • Hourglass Scotand
Hourglass are enhancing our community-led services, and we’re therefore looking for volunteers to deliver frontline support to older people. Our volunteers provide a range of support to help those who have experienced abuse or exploitation, as well as any older person who may be at risk. You’ll provide immediate advice and support to older people and those concerned about them, as well proactively helping keep older people safe from harm. During the lockdown, our volunteers are continuing to provide support to older people remotely, but we will resume in-person support when possible. Volunteering roles We are developing a range of services and activities to promote safer ageing and stop abuse; incorporating prevention, recovery and resilience, interest-based groups, social events, one-to-one support, and more. Volunteering roles include: · Providing one-to-one support to an older person in their own home, a community setting or over the phone · Hosting or assisting with coffee mornings or social events · Facilitating or assisting interest groups (e.g. crafts, photography, story-telling, local history, etc) Groups will be flexible according to your own interests/skills · Raising awareness of the work of Hourglass & issues relating to safer ageing and the abuse of older people · Hosting information stands or pop-up clinics at community venues and events Information and application form available to download at http://bitly.ws/9AIn.
