The Board and Corporate Leadership Team of Barnardo’s believe that sound risk management is integral to both good management and good governance practice. Risk management forms an integral part of Barnardo’s decision-making process and supports its approach to strategic and operational planning.
As a Barnardo’s Risk Management Advisor volunteer, you will help the charity assess and improve our Operational Risk Management Framework.
We are looking for someone who really believes in Barnardo’s work and would like to use their knowledge of Risk Management to help ensure we have effective processes in place to manage risk which means children, young people and families can safely receive the vital services Barnardo’s provide. You will be highly motivated, be an effective communicator and have excellent organisational skills.

What you will be doing
Working closely with the Audit & Assurance team as a Risk Management Advisor, to help deliver our action plan to evolve our Risk Management Framework.
Collaborating with departmental leaders to strengthen their operational risk registers.
Working with the Audit & Assurance team to co-design and develop an effective monitoring and reporting system to ensure the ongoing review of operational risk registers.
Working with our learning and development colleagues at the Barnardo’s University, to design and implement a programme of risk management training.
Adhering to Barnardo's policies and procedures at all times, including Barnardo's: Safeguarding; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Health & Safety; Data Protection; Confidentiality; Recording policies and procedures.
Participating fully in training and supervision.
Volunteering within Barnardo's Basis and Values.
The skills you need
Have a strong background in advising on, implementing, ensuring compliance and monitoring of operational Risk Management processes.
Experience of and ability to assess and advise on quality of operational risk registers
Highly organised, able to multi-task with strong project management skills
Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent literacy and numeracy skills, with an attention to detail.
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and work on own initiative
Familiar with and having a good understanding of information systems, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and other computer packages.
