Volunteer Driver

Description

Volunteer drivers will have the opportunity to drive either a Mini bus or MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) transporting service users to and from various locations, picking up food donations from supermarkets, accompany staff on outdoor activities and also participate if interested, interact with service users. Complete daily checks, log mileage usage and reporting any relevant issues/problems to a designated staff member, ensure vehicles are kept clean and tidy internally and externally.

Organisation aims and objectives

C.A.T.H. (Churches Action for the Homeless) is a local charity which supports, encourages and promotes the development and delivery of projects to relieve homelessness and poor housing, improve the conditions of life and generally aid the development of individuals who are homeless in the Perth & Kinross area. The organisation recognises the associated problems that homelessness presents and works to alleviate these and help maintain and improve the quality of life of our beneficiaries. CATH is a private company limited by guarantee and a charity regulated by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.

Restrictions

17+ for MPV, 25+ for Mini bus Clean current license required. Mini bus drivers required to have D1 category on their license.
Experience required: • Current, clean driving licence • Approachable, friendly and enthusiastic • Ability to work positively with a wide range of people, many who may be disadvantaged in some way • A non-judgemental approach • Reliable and good timekeeper • Work under minimum supervision after an agreed period • Ability to understand and follow all relevant policies and procedures • An interest in homelessness

Blether Buddie

Blether Buddies make weekly friendship telephone calls to lonely and isolated adults in Dundee to help them feel more connected and valued. • Do you like meeting/speaking to new people? • Can you spare an hour or two at any point in the week? • Do you have access to a phone? • Do you have internet access? • Do you like to have a chat? We are looking for volunteers to make Blether Buddie calls, which can last from 20 to 45 minutes followed by completing quick online monitoring form. The opportunity is flexible and after the initial match you will arrange calls between yourself and your Buddie. This lets you change times and days to suit you both. Full training is given and staff will be on hand to support during office hours. Procedures are in place for out of hours.

Native Tree Nursery work

Eadha is one of Scotland's leading Aspen conservation charities. Aspen is a rare native tree but one which is potentially very useful and productive. Aspen rarely sets seed so propagating it is challenging. We survey the remote areas of the country to find surviving trees from which we then extract root cuttings for propagation. We then use a specialised lab to generate planting stock using tissue culture methods. They supply us with small plants which we pot up and grow on in our nursery. Aspen supports a more wildlife than any other tree and we develop woodland projects into which it can be planted. We are also growing other native trees and wildflowers. We are looking for volunteers to help us in our nursery at Bishopton to help with propagation. pot on the aspen trees. Activity helper with Caithness KLICS
  • Caithness KLICS [Kids living in Careing situations]
Caithness KLICS support young people with Care responsibilities for a family Member. To enable the young person to socialise with peers, they affer a social club in Fridays, Tuesdays & Thursdays in Thurso. Volunteers are needed to help with activities, set up and tidy up. It could be board games, or activities inside or outside games, help with snacks and general hanging- out with the young carers while at the centre.
