Advocacy Support Session Volunteer

Description

Support Session Volunteers help our clients with general advocacy, supporting people with a variety of challenges. Volunteer support helps us to reduce waitlists and support more individuals by:
• Helping clients understand about advocacy
• Supporting clients to self-advocate with our tool kits
• Signposting clients to other services where required
• 1:1 casework
• Supporting the service to deliver “collective” advocacy sessions
• Keeping detailed notes and records of casework
• Promotion of services through events and community engagement

We’re an independent charity and one of the UK’s largest providers of advocacy and involvement services. We want to deliver the best possible quality of support to people so they are heard, respected, safe and in control of their own life. We believe that everyone, regardless of situation, illness or disability, has a right to: > be heard and respected > have the same choice, control and freedom as any other person > be safe from violence, discrimination, harm or abuse Everything we do is focused on achieving this aim.

Frequency and commitment details

2-3 hours per week, 6 month commitment.

PVG check required (no cost to volunteer) Volunteering Hours are Monday - Friday 9am-5pm only 6 month commitment to role
Experience required: • Good communication skills – written and verbal • Empathy and patience when dealing with clients who have challenges • A knowledge of or interest in advocacy • A knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel & Outlook • Accuracy and attention to detail • Ability to manage own time and prioritise workload • Ability to work independently & as part of a team • A commitment to the aims and ethos of VoiceAbility
Travel details: Volunteers must be able to travel in local area (meet clients, networking etc). We do not have an office in the local area. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Blether Buddie

Blether Buddies make weekly friendship telephone calls to lonely and isolated adults in Dundee to help them feel more connected and valued. • Do you like meeting/speaking to new people? • Can you spare an hour or two at any point in the week? • Do you have access to a phone? • Do you have internet access? • Do you like to have a chat? We are looking for volunteers to make Blether Buddie calls, which can last from 20 to 45 minutes followed by completing quick online monitoring form. The opportunity is flexible and after the initial match you will arrange calls between yourself and your Buddie. This lets you change times and days to suit you both. Full training is given and staff will be on hand to support during office hours. Procedures are in place for out of hours.

Native Tree Nursery work
  • Eadha Enterprises
Eadha is one of Scotland's leading Aspen conservation charities. Aspen is a rare native tree but one which is potentially very useful and productive. Aspen rarely sets seed so propagating it is challenging. We survey the remote areas of the country to find surviving trees from which we then extract root cuttings for propagation. We then use a specialised lab to generate planting stock using tissue culture methods. They supply us with small plants which we pot up and grow on in our nursery. Aspen supports a more wildlife than any other tree and we develop woodland projects into which it can be planted. We are also growing other native trees and wildflowers. We are looking for volunteers to help us in our nursery at Bishopton to help with propagation. pot on the aspen trees. Activity helper with Caithness KLICS
  • Caithness KLICS [Kids living in Careing situations]
Caithness KLICS support young people with Care responsibilities for a family Member. To enable the young person to socialise with peers, they affer a social club in Fridays, Tuesdays & Thursdays in Thurso. Volunteers are needed to help with activities, set up and tidy up. It could be board games, or activities inside or outside games, help with snacks and general hanging- out with the young carers while at the centre.
