Do you have an enthusiastic approach and an ability to connect with children and young people on a 1-1 basis? We are looking for volunteer mentors to support vulnerable children and young people aged 8-14 years old, who are Looked After at Home.
What will i be doing?
Direct one-to-one mentoring with a child or young person within Renfrewshire or Inverclyde.
Providing support for children/young people to access social opportunities and take part in fun activities within their local area
Working alongside a child or young person to set personal goals and motivate and encourage them to take part and make choices in their lives
Listening to a child/young person by valuing and respecting their feelings, views and opinions
Where required taking an active part in reviews and evaluations.

The Trust shall have the following Charitable Purposes (the Charitable Purposes): (a) to provide, maintain and promote care, accommodation, support, training and/or services for: (i) children and young persons who are in need of care, protection, assistance and/ or training; (ii) in exceptional circumstances, those who were previously children or young persons assisted by the Trust who remain vulnerable and/or disadvantaged and therefore remain in need of care, protection, assistance and/ or training; and (iii) vulnerable and/or disadvantaged adults whose assistance by the Trust will provide care, protection and/or assistance to children and young persons; and (b) to provide, maintain and promote education, training, consultancy, research and information: (i) for the beneficiaries listed in (a), as may be required to meet their specific educational and physical needs; (ii) for current and prospective individuals and agencies involved, whether through the Trust or otherwise, with issues relating principally to the types of beneficiaries listed in (a); and (iii) for members of the public generally and decision-makers about the activities of the Trust and issues arising therefrom.

Each visit lasts for approximately 2-4 hours. Visits will be weekly/fortnightly depending on the needs of the child/young person. Minimum commitment of 12 months is required One hour every 6 weeks for supervision.
For all roles involving regulated work with children and/or protected adults, Aberlour will require the applicant to submit a PVG Scheme Record or a PVG Scheme Record Update application.
Experience required: A knowledge of some of the issues affecting children and young people
Ability to encourage and motivate young people to participate in activities
Ability to work well with children and young people in a supportive way
Good listening, oral, & written communication skills
Ability to relate to children and young people and to be able to see things from their point of view
Experience of building confidence and self esteem
Good coping skills and the ability to deal with their own emotions.
