DEBRA is a national charity and patient support organisation for people living with the rare, extremely painful, genetic skin blistering condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) also known as ‘Butterfly Skin’. EB causes the skin to become very fragile and tear or blister at the slightest touch. With your help we can find treatments and cure(s) for EB. Volunteering in a DEBRA shop can teach you new skills as well as meeting new people and gaining experience in retail. The role involves: - Operating a till to take cash and card payments - Engaging with customers on the shop floor - Replenishing stock on the shop floor - Recording donor details for gift aid - Creating eye catching displays

The Assistant Beaver Leader role is one of the most popular choices as you can help with whatever the group is doing. To provide the best Scouting experience and continuity for our young people in Rosewell we need volunteers, in particular a Tuesday Assistant Beaver Leader. Do you enjoy interacting with young people? Are you a team player with a positive, can-do attitude? Do you enjoy fun activities – from athletics to astronomy form photography to pioneering? Do you want to do more? Then this is right up your street. What can you do? You can play a pivotal role. Without a Beaver Colony, there would be nobody to feed new members into our Cub pack either. The existing Beavers may not be able to fully embrace the Beaver Scouts opportunity. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, demand for Scouting remains strong but we can only continue (and grow) with your help. This is your chance to make a difference and use your personal skills to help young people gain theirs as a Scout Maker. And volunteering goes both ways – you can benefit too. From camps, water activities, nature walks, cooking, crafts, sport and so on. This is only possible thanks to our team of adult volunteers. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences at Scouts by providing opportunities and support as part of team of like-minded individuals. Our approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. As Scouts is a well-known ‘brand’, this experience also looks great on any CV adding further employability skills.

Midlothian Scouts currently do not have a District Secretary and we need one! We need your help to volunteer to become an Executive member. Do you have good administration skills? Would you prefer to support more ‘behind the scenes’? Can you help keep our records in order? You will play a key role by leading the administrative work for Midlothian Scouts. No previous secretarial experience is needed, we just need someone who is good at admin and keeping records. This is an exciting central which could take about 2 hours or so per month only! This is your chance to be extraordinary and help in a flexible way! Joining our committee is not as posh as it sounds but we do like to have fun. · Minimal commitment – only a couple of hours a month · Flexible volunteering to fit around you – your skills/interests/time · Alongside like-minded people – we're easy to get on with · Great fun - it sounds formal, but it isn't! · Make a difference – get that ‘feel good factor’ The Secretary will support the Chair of the Executive Committee to ensure the smooth functioning and sound administration of the Scout Group for instance. · Provide administrative support to the running of the Executive Committee. · Work with the Chair of the Executive Committee to set meeting agendas and arrange meeting logistics for the Executive Committee. · Communicating with the Executive Committee and relevant Scout Council. · Preparing the appropriate administration for the Annual General Meeting, including collating the Annual. · Report and Accounts for the Annual General Meeting. · And more Though ‘Executive’ sounds a bit formal, it is not like that at all! We are a relaxed group of like-minded individuals! This role is ideal for those who do not necessarily wish to work directly with young people but would like to help to support and develop Scouting a couple of hours or so a month.

The Cub Scout Leader manages and leads the operation of the Cubs Section (8 – 10 1/2 yrs), in particular, the planning and delivery of the Balanced Programme, with the help of Assistant Section Leaders, Section Assistants and Young Leaders. The Cub Scout Leader will motivate, inspire and ensure that every young person has the opportunity to take part in fun, challenge and adventure. It’s so rewarding in so many ways. Do you have a passion for getting outside and trying new things? Could you encourage and lead young people aged 8 to 10.5 years old to discover and learn through excitement, teamwork and adventure? Working as part of a team of adult volunteers, a Cub Scout Leader assists in the planning and delivery of a safe and exciting programme of outdoor activities, community projects, games, challenges and the excitement of a few days away in a tent! Helping young people to grow, gain confidence and achieve awards is extremely rewarding but you will also gain new skills too through our award winning training scheme that covers everything from first aid to dealing with challenging behavior. You don’t need to have had previous experience of working alongside young people or have been a Scout yourself. Leaders need to be at least 18 years old, enthusiastic, and organised; we will teach you the rest and ensure that you get all the training, support and mentoring you need. We know our volunteers lead busy lives, so we’re all about flexibility.
