Recycling volunteer on first Saturday of each month

Description

Recycle Ayr is a volunteer led group that started over 2 years ago and we meet on the first Saturday of every month at Newton Primary School with our main objective of reducing landfill waste by recycling, up cycling or reusing donations to benefit the people of Ayrshire and beyond. This is achieved by people in the community bringing unwanted items that will benefit others.
The group also support the local community of Wallacetown in the provision of furniture, clothing and household items.
The collections are also used to support charity fundraising by collecting items that can be converted for cash.

The list of items accepted is considerable and is constantly evolving. Donated items are then used in a variety of ways in order to benefit a number of causes and persons. For example, donated milk bottle tops are passed to Pathfinder Dogs, a charity which helps visually impaired people; stationery is passed to local schools; jewellery and watches go to Kidney Research UK; used stamps are passed on to Bone Cancer Research Trust UK; used fabrics go to sewing groups for upcycling; and blankets etc. are passed on by Newton Primary School to refugees and other needy families in the area
We are currently looking to fill the following volunteer role.

Role Title. Role Title. Volunteer on the 1st Saturday of the month
Outline of role.
To attend Newton Primary School on the first Saturday of every month from 10.45 until 12.00 to assist in the collection of donations. This involves:-

  • assisting in setting up the collection room with the collection boxes.
  • assisting in receiving the donated goods from donators
  • assisting in taking donations from cars.
  • packing up the boxes and helping with general clearing of the room

Restrictions

Experience required: No particular skills are required but you should enjoy meeting and talking to new people. There is no requirement to be PVG checked in this role.

Each venue has a good size and well-equipped kitchen. Lunch provided, travel expenses reimbursed, free parking at all venues. A Volunteer from Central Fife said - I really enjoyed volunteering here over past 10 months, it will be sad to leave, it's been a very meaningful experience, and I have learnt a lot.

How can you have fun, gain confidence and help others at the same time? By becoming a social group assistant with Express Group Fife! Express Group Fife is a mental health charity, operating in Fife for almost 50 years. They provide social group activities and engage with people over 18 experiencing poor mental health. They are looking for a Social Group Assistants for their groups listed below. Activities involved: setting up the hall (tables and chairs, but not at every location), socialising with service users, serving tea/coffee, taking part/assisting in activities (e.g. board games, bingo, crafts). There is always a Group Coordinator facilitating the group and very often also a Case Worker who can work individually with service users when needed. Time: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm, lunch provided, travel expenses reimbursed, free parking at all venues. A Volunteer from Central Fife said - I really enjoyed volunteering here over past 10 months, it will be sad to leave, it's been a very meaningful experience, and I have learnt a lot.

  • ENeRGI (East Neuk Recovery Group Initiative)
ENeRGI SCIO is a mental health charity based in the East Neuk of Fife. Volunteers are needed to join its committee. You will be responsible for governing the charity, helping to shape policy and its vision for the future. ENeRGI is a SCIO registered charity established since 1995. Committee Members are asked to attend Committee Meetings, which take place once every two months, and usually last 1 hour to 90 minutes, and the ENeRGI Annual General Meetings, usually held in December. Committee roles available or you can remain as an ordinary trustee with just attendance and input expected. This is an opportunity to gain new skills and contribute to a great community project. Interested parties over the age of 16 are welcome to apply.
