In partnership with EDHSCP and as part of Compassionate East Dunbartonshire, we are excited to
introduce our new project NODA ED (No One Dies Alone East Dunbartonshire) which aims to support
those living in care homes who are receiving end of life care. We understand that this time can be a
challenge for care home staff who are often doing many things at once, unable to spend as much time with
the person as they would like to. We also understand that for various reasons, some people don’t have
family or friends who can be there at this time. This is where our NODA Companions can help.
Describe the volunteering Opportunity
NODA Companions will support people living within care homes throughout East Dunbartonshire who are
in their final 72 hours. NODA Companions can help ensure that they do not face this difficult time alone: a
NODA Companion can help maintain a calm and quiet bedside presence by playing the person’s favourite
music or reading their favourite book, but most importantly by just being present. Importantly, this will also
help to reduce pressure on busy health workers and unpaid carers requiring respite. We will base our
support on a rota system which operates from 10AM-10PM. When a NODA Companion is available, they
would be asked to sit with a person for a minimum of 2 hours, with the opportunity for more if the volunteer
is happy to do so
Experience required: Essential: Reliability, good communication skills and ability to use WhatsApp on their own phone to access
rota.

to accommodate where possible
