Would you like to support people who have served in the Armed Forces? You don’t need a military background, just the ability to listen, some basic I.T skills and good written and spoken English. If so, this could be the role for you.
What is a caseworker?
Caseworkers work with clients to figure out what type of help they need. Next, they find the right sources of support and arrange for clients to access it. This might be funds for special equipment for someone with a disability, adaptions to a property so an older client can remain at home or funds for a rental deposit. Caseworkers also sign-post clients onto specialist local services for advice on benefits, housing, mental health, debt, finding work etc.
Why do we need you?
Volunteer Caseworkers are the lifeblood of SSAFA, supporting a growing number of people in need of financial, practical and emotional support. Clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan. Our trained volunteers listen without judgement to assess and provide tailored support to help people navigate life in and beyond military service. We need you to join your local SSAFA team to help us achieve this.
Would you like to support people who have served in the Armed Forces? You don't need a military background just patience, and an ability to get on with people from different backgrounds and age groups. If so, this could be the role for you. SSAFA Visitors provide support to isolated people living at home or in residential care. Whilst a friendly chat about the old days over a cup of tea, playing cards, looking at old photo albums or military momentum is an important aspect of the role you will also be able to recognise any other support needs and explore how to link your client into their local community and arrange for a SSAFA caseworker to assess the client for other support needed. The essential part of the role is visiting the client. Whilst you will visit a client on a regular basis for a period you will not be developing a kind of relationship where you will provide personal care, handle money or support someone in an emergency. SSAFA can help clients to arrange other types of support if needed.
Do you enjoy speaking to people and working with computers? Are you organised? You could support our Talk and Support team to run our award winning befriending groups by matching blind and partially sighted people from our waiting list into our telephone befriending groups. You would be helping people to get into one of our groups as quickly as possible and helping to end the isolation of sight loss.
We are looking for someone who is available one day each week, preferably on a Monday or Tuesday, who is comfortable using computers and computer based telephony systems and who is familiar with Microsoft Office 365.
This is an opportunity for someone with passion, commitment and drive to make a big difference to the way Scotland/your locality responds to climate change.
The Scottish Communities Climate Action Network (SCCAN) is delivering this climate engagement program for Scotland – Climate Conversations.
Facilitators are our agents of change. As a facilitator you will be part of a team that together will inspire hundreds of people throughout Scotland to stand up on climate change and move society and our leaders to action.
About Climate Conversations
Since 2015, Climate for Change has pioneered the Climate Conversations model. Using a party-plan model of small gatherings in people’s homes, a facilitator leads a discussion about climate change. Each Conversation generates leads for at least one more, resulting in built-in growth. This is a unique model within the climate movement that allows both deep engagement and exponential growth.
C4C’s 2020 Impact Report demonstrates Climate Conversations is a uniquely powerful engagement tool within the climate movement, successful in reaching audiences that others have historically found challenging – especially the “wavering middle” – and in educating and empowering thousands of individuals to take action on climate.

We are run entirely by volunteers who give up their own time to help us. There are two main types of volunteers: the uniformed Leaders and the Executive Committee. We help volunteers get the most out of their experiences by providing opportunities for adventure, training, fun and friendship.
The Scout Association award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. The approach focuses on what you want to get out of volunteering with Scouts, while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say that their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal life.
In Scouting, our adults have a responsibility to make sure that the Programme is fun and exciting. We must also make sure that it is safe. The Scout Association’s policies, rules, code of behaviour, advice on Child Protection and safety policy are there to ensure our young people stay safe while they enjoy themselves and learn.
Volunteering for Scouting is one of the most fun, rewarding and positive things you can ever do. You can give as much or a little time you like and we will match opportunities that fit your skills and time available. If you would like to have fun and make friends, earn professional qualifications and make a real difference to the lives of young people please volunteer with us.
