Being an adviser is a very varied role. As an adviser your main responsibilities will be: • Interview clients at drop-in sessions and appointments in the bureau and occasionally by phone and outreach sessions; • Listening to clients and letting them explain the problem. Helping the client to clarify the issues by exploring the problem through active questioning; • Provide information to clients from the Citizens Advice Bureau electronic information system, reference books and other sources; • Explain the choices and consequences the client faces to enable clients to make informed choices; • Give practical support to clients by writing letters, completing forms, doing basic benefit calculations, making telephone calls and speaking or writing to other agencies on their behalf; • Refer / signpost clients to other agencies for specialist/additional support; • Keep accurate case records of meetings with clients on official computer databases; • Identify common issues that affect many clients to prevent future problems; • Maintaining basic office administration, e.g. filing case notes, amending information, telephone calls and any other appropriate tasks as required; • Committing to a minimum of two volunteer sessions per week is required, either 9am – 1pm or 1pm - 5pm. and for Dumfries, on a rota, cover one evening sessions which can occur every 6-8 weeks; • Attend volunteer/staff meetings as arranged. Volunteer Administrator: Administrators ensure that bureau systems run smoothly. Good support is essential for the running of any organisation, and a Citizens Advice Bureau is no different. Being part of our admin team is a rewarding and varied role. As an administrator your main responsibilities and tasks will include: • Reception duties – greeting clients and arranging appointments; • Receiving and sending faxes, mail, email and telephone calls; • Filing and photocopying; • Using word processing packages, spreadsheets, and databases; • Developing and maintaining administrative systems; • Stock control of leaflets, materials, ordering forms and updating information; • Keeping reception area of information up to date and replenished; • Helping to arrange events; • Taking notes and minutes at meetings;
The SPRING Social Prescribing Project supports people self-manage long term health conditions and connects them with local activities and support available. Volunteers assist individuals through providing regular contact and a non-judgemental listening ear as well as identifying relevant local support available.
U-Turn is a Peer Education service for young people (12 – 18 years old) across South Lanarkshire. The service is provided by Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) on behalf of South Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drugs Partnership.
Peer Educators will be supported to deliver inputs across South Lanarkshire to other young people to incorporate a harm reduction approach as well as addressing stigma/language around drug and alcohol use.
Peer Educators are will work alongside the Peer Education Workers & Peer Education Team Leader.
As a Peer Educator, you will:
• Attend training related to Peer Education role
• Work as part of a team to achieve a common goal
• Support delivery of Harm Reduction
• Work towards a qualification
• Attend Personal Development Planning Responsibilities
• Participating in weekly workshops
We are looking for committed and empathetic volunteers to support people who are living with, or affected by chronic pain who access our phone, online forum and e-help support services.
This is a great opportunity to enhance your communication skills and develop an understanding of pain self-management, while providing a valued service to people living with long-term pain. By joining us you will join a fast-growing and respected service.
Due to the nature of the role, successful applicants will be required to undertake a PVG check.
What you would be doing:
· Offer emotional support and signpost resources and information to people affected by persistent pain either by phone, email or on the online forum
· You will work as part of a team of volunteers, covering a rota, ability to commit to shifts is essential
· Attend training/supervision sessions remotely
· Keep up to date with Pain Concern news and work across the UK
· Complete ‘after contact’ survey to support Pain Concern’s evaluation targets.
We would like volunteers to commit to for at least 12 months (including the training period), with the acknowledgement that your circumstances may change.
We are looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers who can regularly give us four hours of their time per fortnight.
We are currently open 2 days a week from 11am to 3pm and are hoping to increase our opening hours in the near future.
Duties of the role include:
• Welcoming visitors and answering questions
• Selling museum publications
• Recording visitor information
• Receiving items donated by members of the public

We know that the benefit application process is complex. No two cases are the same. That is where we need you. You will support Turn2US Digital Buddies by helping them to answer complex questions they get from people who have asked for extra support in applying for benefits.
You will feel great knowing you are making an impact, supporting people through challenging times with your expert knowledge and experience of the benefits system..
Your role is not to provide any form of advice. You will be giving practical support and information all from your smartphone. You will tell them when someone needs to be referred to an advisor, or signposting Digital Buddies to helpful services and information.
Welcome guide volunteers are mobile on the main concourse of Ninewells Hospital. The volunteers provide a warm welcome to patients, visitors and staff coming into the hospital. The volunteers will approach people who may be looking lost or needing additional assistance around the hospital. They can provide directions to appointments, clinics or wards as requested and can if required escort people to their destination within the hospital. They are knowledgable of site information for example locations of public toilets, refreshments, public transport information
Applying for benefits is a stressful process for many people. There are many forms to fill in, alien language and a lack of confidence that the situation will improve.
The Turn2US project aims to help more people apply for the welfare support they are entitled to, through a volunteer buddying system.
As a Digital Buddy you will be matched with someone who has asked for some extra support in applying for benefits and you will provide online, one-to-one support. You will be a hand to hold for people looking for financial help. Your role is not to provide any form of advice. You can be a source of emotional and practical support to get someone through a hard time in their lives, all via your phone.
You in turn will be supported by a Benefits Supporter with expert knowledge of the UK Welfare System who will help you to answer any complex queries that come your way.
Could you lead the local SSAFA services in your area?
You don’t need a military background for this role, but you should be empathic to the needs of the armed forces community, have some experience of managing people and possess good I.T. skills. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Leading and coordinating a team of volunteers the Branch Chair oversees all aspects of the branch. Ultimately accountable to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, through the National Chairman your role is to ensure that the branch is running in line with SSAFA’s Royal Charter Rules, Regulations and policies.
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea, but it’s not limited to launching a lifeboat or providing lifeguards to save lives.
Water safety contributes to the RNLI’s vision of saving every one, by developing Water Safety and Lifesaving Plans and working with Partners to help influence improved safety, to reduce the number of preventable deaths and incidents that occur within local coastal and inland waterway environments.
The Water Safety Officer is a pivotal role in that you would be involved in the design and implementation of the Water Safety and Lifesaving Plan, liaising closely with the local Lifeboat Operations Team, Area Lifesaving Manager, and the Water Safety team. A Water Safety and Lifesaving Plan is designed to identify “at risk” groups to reduce fatalities and serious incidents by working with partners to develop specifically targeted interventions.
