ARCHIE Child Bereavement Service (part of the ARCHIE Foundation charity) provide direct support to bereaved children and young people throughout Tayside
Key objectives of our Volunteers are: To support the work of GCBN through contributing to the range of services provided. To make a positive difference to the lives of the children, young people and their families who have been affected by bereavement
Due to an increased demand in our service we are seeking volunteers in a variety of areas including responders to visit bereaved families.
Our responder service entails people visiting bereaved families and undertaking direct support work with children and young people and their families. We also run event days for children staffed up by our volunteers. We are particularly keen to recruit a volunteer with a financial or accounts background to take on our treasurer role.
Excellent support and training is provided to all volunteers e.g.: induction includes self awareness, policy and procedures of charity. Training in child protection and bereavement support. Support from coordinator and board of trustees.
All help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. For more details please contact: Malcolm Stewart, Coordinator at email: malcolm.stewart@archie.org or tel.: 01224 554152.
Volunteering Matters is a national volunteering charity. We bring people together, through the power of volunteering, to overcome some of society’s most complex issues. One of our most successful projects across the UK is RSVP - the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme. People who have time on their hands, particularly those who are aged 50+, develop, organise and run a range of activities in their local communities.
In Stirlingshire and Clackmannanshire, RSVP runs a Handyperson Project which is led by volunteers. Our team help older people, or people with disabilities, with small and minor maintenance tasks. The tasks we complete for people are varied, normally taking less than 2 hours. Examples include unblocking sinks, putting up shelves, building flatpack furniture, changing lightbulbs, rewiring plugs, replacing smoke alarm batteries, and hanging mirrors, curtains, or blinds.
It can be challenging to find a tradesperson willing to do such minor tasks which can be difficult or even dangerous for some people to do these tasks themselves – particularly if they are older, frail, or have a disability. Our service is free although the service user pays for any supplies e.g. washers or lightbulbs etc. Donations are welcomed from those who access it.
Tasks included in the role
Contact clients to arrange a suitable time for the task
Carry out task
Record task completion using an on-line report form
Accept donations if offered, record and hand in so they can be banked.
Volunteers receive full support from the Handyperson team as well as travel expenses and health & safety equipment.
The days of the week and hours available are completely flexible and we will work around the volunteer and what spare time they have. If you are interested in volunteering, or you know someone who could do with some help around the house, then please contact us.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) works with NHS Forth Valley to develop volunteering in local hospitals. We are looking for older volunteers to carry out support roles in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, with the aim of making a visit to the hospital a better experience for patients and visitors. Volunteers provide support to patients and visitors in several different departments. Volunteers contribute to the well-being of patients and visitors by being a listening ear, a helpful and friendly face or even helping with a cup of tea. Our volunteers feel valued, make new friends and keep active in retirement.
Volunteering Matters are a national volunteering charity. We are looking "Family Support" Volunteers in the City of Edinburgh, who can offer practical, social and emotional support to a local family in need.
Our Family Supporters programme recruits, trains and supports volunteers, matching them 1:1 with parents and families facing a range of life challenges and barriers. Volunteers help families, spending 1:1 time together on a personalised set of goals chosen by the family, for the family.
These goals may including achieving improved living standards, building confidence and soft skills, budgeting, healthier eating, better school life, improving health and wellbeing or introducing parents to community resources, and lots more.
If you have an understanding of the challenges that families are facing and would like to use your life experiences and skills to support others, this could be the role for you!
As a volunteer, you will build a strong relationship based on trust and mutual respect, acting as a friendly face who listens and cares about the family.
"Grandmentors" is an award winning inter-generational mentoring programme, matching volunteer mentors who have a range of life skills and experiences, with young people aged 16-26 who are care experienced or who have "adverse childhood experiences". Grandmentors has now launched in Midlothian in 2023, for the first time!
Our volunteer mentors help young people navigate the transition to independence into adulthood, by guiding them through life skills such as managing finances, accessing employment, education and training, and supporting their health and wellbeing.
This opportunity is for volunteers (normally aged 50+) who have life experience and skills to offer. However, if you are younger than 50 and feel you could offer valuable support, please do apply or contact us to discuss further.
It is important that you have good people skills, communication skills, patience, and can offer a regular commitment of a few hours per week (weekly or fortnightly). This role requires a PVG check which we will process for you after you apply to become a mentor.
We provide our volunteers with comprehensive induction training, all on-going support, volunteer expenses and lots of other great benefits including the chance to make a difference to a young adult in need.
Can you support Carrick Rugby? Do you enjoy spending time with a rugby team and trained as a physio/therapist assistant?
Sports physiotherapy plays an integral role when it comes to common rugby injuries. Treatment does not only involve basic therapy because sports physiotherapy aims to fully rehabilitate the player after an injury and to also find ways to prevent aggravating previous injuries and come up with a helpful plan to avoid further injuries. We need volunteers to assist our rugby players to help them prevent, manage and rehabilitate injuries.
The Inspire Project is a mentoring and supported volunteering programme in Edinburgh, aiming to help "New Scots".
New Scots aged 16-35 have the opportunity to take part in volunteering placements in their community, as well as the chance to have a Mentor who will support them as they try to move forward in life, in a new country.
As a mentor you will meet regularly with your mentee to provide practical and emotional support. You might help the young adult to increase their confidence, improve English skills, help to get into employment or further education, or achieve other personal or professional goals. Normally meeting with your mentee for around an hour a week, this is a great opportunity to be a positive and reliable source of support to a person facing life challenges and barriers.
