The Fraser Centre has opened a new café in Tranent Town centre and we are looking for volunteers to help welcome guests, take orders, take payments, serve and help provide a clean and safe café for our visitors to enjoy.
This is not a cooking role but training in our coffee machine will be provided.
The Café aims to provide a welcoming, accessible environment in our community catering to events in the building and the general public.
Volunteers would be involved in all aspects of the Café including: serving customers; food preparation; ensuring the area is clean and safe; welcoming all customers.
Volunteers would be given food and hygiene training as well as first aid in the workplace training.
The volunteer cook will be matched with an older person living in their area. They will provide a portion of a home cooked meal once a week, deliver it to the older person and stay for a chat if required. This meal share activity has a very important befriending element to it as many if our members may be socially isolated and will value having a local connection within their community.
A kitchen worker is required to assist staff in preparing meals for our older people’s lunch club and snacks for the toddler groups. The centre cooks all food on a daily basis on site and this position entails all areas from preparation to serving. Other main duties relate to dish washer operation, kitchen surface cleaning and table setting and cleaning. All of these activities to be conducted to agreed standards. Regular contact will be made with centre users, staff and other volunteers, therefore good communication skills are required as well as the ability to be adaptable and work as part of a team.
We are looking for a enthusiastic person to join our team here at St. Ninian's where we work with and support the families in the community. Your role is to assist in setting up an attractive lunch following our Healthy Eating Plan. This is a simple lunch and consists of homemade soup, sandwiches, drinks and fruit. We also take into account the various ages of the children attending, this includes the needs of babies at different stages. We also take into account any allergies and other dietary requirements.
During lunch we also offer taster sessions and encourage the families to enjoy this opportunity. After lunch you will be doing the washing up and cleaning the kitchen for the next day with the help of another volunteer.
The Chatty Café is a nationwide initiative that aims to kick start conversations, get people chatting and reduce loneliness along the way. Central Library is at the heart of the community and is a welcoming safe space for everyone. Our Chatty Cafe will be open one day a month, offering free tea, coffee, and a friendly chat.
We are looking for volunteers to host ‘chatter & natter’ tables, where the volunteer helps create a welcoming space where members of the public can get together and chat, should they wish to. This role would suit someone reliable who enjoys meeting and talking to new people.
Main Duties
- Host a Chatter & Natter session each month.
- Meet and greet customers.
- Help kick-start conversations, be a friendly face at the table and promote the scheme within your local community.
Other Duties
- Serve tea and coffee.
- Clear empty plates and tables ready for new customers.
- Ensure the cafe area remains clean and tidy during service.
- Promote library and community groups and events to customers where appropriate.
Forfar Old Age Pensioner's Association holds a coffee morning every Tuesday morning in Forfar and would greatly benefit from the help of 1 volunteer to take orders and serve tables.
Full support will be provided within this role making it suitable to people of all ages.
Fun, Food and Friendship at Community Spirit is a new group opening in November 2022. Operating from the Community Spirit premises at Fisheracre, Arbroath, it plans to be open from 4-8pm Monday to Friday. Each day a two-course hot meal will be provided and there will be a variety of activities dependent on the requests of those attending. This is open to anyone regardless of age, gender or circumstances and is free of charge. We hope to provide a welcoming and warm space in which people can relax, build confidence and friendships and support one another to build community.
We are looking for volunteers to provide catering assistance to the group. Volunteers will be part of a team of 6. Tasks include:
• Managing, recording and storing donations
• One of a small team preparing and cooking a hot meal
• Ensuring stock of essential items for the following week (either in stock or notify need to purchase)
• Prepare flasks of hot drinks to take away
• Small cleaning tasks in turn with staff
• Providing regular feedback to the team of user’s suggestions and needs
You will need to have:
• A willingness to be part of a team
• An ability to be flexible within the role
• Commitment to the role
Fun, Food and Friendship in Friockheim is a new group opening in Friockheim in November 2022 from 11am-3pm every Saturday. A selection of activities will be provided for all ages, including family films, games and crafts with a soup and sandwich lunch. The group is open to anyone regardless of age, gender or circumstances and is free of charge. We hope to provide a welcoming and warm space in which people can relax, build confidence and friendships and support one another to build community.
We are looking for volunteers to be the welcoming face of the group, meeting and greeting people as they arrive and being available to help where required. Volunteers will be part of a team of 6
Tasks include:
• Extending a warm and friendly welcome to the people we support
• Making a cuppa and providing a listening ear
• Assisting in the serving and clearing away of a meal
• Prepare flasks of hot drinks to take away
• Ensure portable blankets and other chargeable items are ready to take away
• Supporting and encouraging participation in activities
• Small cleaning tasks in turn with staff
• Providing regular feedback to the team of user’s suggestions and needs
With additional training and support:
• Signposting and supporting access to services
• Supporting service users to make phone calls and use the internet
You will need to have:
• A willingness to be part of a team
• An ability to be flexible within the role
