Kirkmichael Shop and Café is a small, friendly organisation run by a combination of paid and volunteer staff. There are always at least two people on at one time and the volunteer shifts tend to be three hours long. The main activities are serving in the Shop and Café, greeting and helping customers, stocking the shelves, light cleaning and food and drinks preparation [optional] .
Our volunteer cinema helpers support us in setting up the venue (the Carrick Centre, Maybole), meeting and greeting visitors, collecting tickets, etc.
If required, they may be asked to introduce the film and help out with the distribution and sale of refreshments.
The Drop in Centre is held every Wednesday in Loans Village Hall between 13:30 and 16:15 and it urgently needs two new volunteers so that it can keep running. One volunteer is stepping down now and the other at the end of the year due to failing health.
This would involve buying cakes and milk, keeping the receipts, collecting money and serving tea to some of the more elderly members of our Community. For some of the locals who come along, it’s the only day of the week that they get out.
If you’re interested in helping out then feel free to drop-in yourself when one of the sessions are running so you can see first hand what it’s all about.
We are currently seeking volunteers to assist in our tea bar at Ayr Hospital. The service we provide is open to patients, visitors and staff who are all grateful for the work done by the volunteers.
Main responsibilities:
- Welcoming, greeting and serving customers
- Operating the till
- Preparing teas, coffees etc.
- Other general duties
Currently the tea bar opening hours are Monday to Thursday 11am to 4pm. Yet it can be extended to Friday and lengthier opening hours if there is a bigger pool of volunteers.
Volunteering shifts are 2.5 hours minimum. There is no wheelchair access at present. We encourage anyone to register their interest, as we support all volunteers. Volunteers with support workers are also encouraged to apply.
For more information contact Ms Joan Wells on 01292 614567. The phone is generally answered Mon to Fri 9am to 2pm, but anyone can leave a message and we will get back to the volunteer at our earliest.
