Angus Cycle Hub encourage people to live healthier lives and reduce car journeys and CO2 emissions through cycling and recycling.
We run two community based projects based in Arbroath and Dundee, Scotland.
We are committed to our community and want them involved in everything we do at Cycle Hub which is why we love volunteers! We have a variety of roles of varying lengths of commitment time. Whatever your background, identity or ability, there’s a volunteer spot with your name on it.
We have a list of volunteer roles you can choose from, but we are ultimately flexible around you and your available time commitment, experience, interests and goals. We want to make sure we find something that fits you best and offers opportunity for growth, development and progression with us. In the past, our volunteers have supported us at our events, in our shops and workshops, and with our Bikeability program in schools.
If retail is your area of interest, then jump on board as a retail volunteer where you will get first-hand training on our shop floor. This experience will guide you into sales from a third-sector perspective in a warm and friendly, community focused environment.
You will work alongside our Shop Manager in all areas of the shop.
Options include:
- Angus Cycle Hub
- Dundee Cycle Hub
Are you happy to volunteer using your own vehicle?
Do you have a few hours a week to spare and enjoy meeting people?
If you’re an active person looking for a flexible volunteer driver role then come and join our friendly team. Without Volunteer Stock Collection Drivers we can’t collect our generous donors’ items, and our shops won’t be able to beat heartbreak forever.
We need help now more than ever to collect donated items from our supporters when they are unable to bring them into our shop themselves. You will need to be physically fit and active for this driver role due to the lifting and carrying of donation bags in and out of the vehicle.
It will be your responsibility to ensure that you have a full, valid driving licence and that your vehicle is correctly insured for carrying out collections of BHF donations – don’t worry, we can help you with this. You’ll use your own vehicle and travel will be reimbursed at the HMRC rate (currently 45p per mile).
Borders Pet Rescue is a small non-profit, registered charity in the Scottish Borders dedicated to the care and re-homing of dogs, cats and small animals. The animal centre is based in Earlston. We have four shops in Duns Kelso, Hawick and Galashiels. We rely on their income to continue the work that we do.
Our shop volunteers are the first point of contact for customers when they enter our shops. You will be meeting and greeting all of our lovely customers with a smile, providing assistance and ultimately helping to increase sales and donations. You may even have to say “hello” to some of their four-legged friends! All necessary training will be given.
Or, you may prefer to stay behind the scenes and help sort through the donations we receive, steam the clothing and wash bric-a-brac. You may be the lucky volunteer who finds that real antique or heirloom!
You can help with window and shop displays, ensuring the shelves are stocked making the shop look appealing. This may include doing some dusting and hoovering to keep it fresh.
This list is not exhaustive though. We just need lots of enthusiastic and reliable people - with knowledge to share and/or a desire to learn new skill.
We currently have around 40 shops/ community hubs across Scotland. Our shops and hubs help us raise funds so we can provide our services to the people who need us. Every one of our stores relies on a team of volunteers to help run it and support our staff. Quite simply, we cannot provide our services or raise funds without the amazing support of our volunteers. The time, support and the work they do is vital to us and the people we help. By helping out in one of our stores, you can make a difference to people and their families in Scotland who are isolated, scared or anxious about their condition.

· Honing your retail and cashier skills behind the till and taking payments.

If you’re a keen rummager and like things to be neat and tidy, then we have a role for you - helping in our retail stock room to sort the fantastic donations we receive behind the scenes. If you love a bit of ironing, then master the steamer and watch those wrinkles disappear (it’s surprisingly therapeutic!) or become a tagging extraordinaire, allowing customers to understand what item they are purchasing.
Whether you’re a lover of vintage clothing, films, books, vinyl records or stunning jewellery – or perhaps you just fancy the company of other friendly volunteers away from the shop floor whilst making a difference - our retail stock room role is the place to be behind the scenes.
Typical tasks include:
· Sorting out donated items and preparing them for sale
· Using a clothes steamer and tagging price labels on to clothing items
· Identifying unsaleable donations for recycling
· Keeping the sort room organised and tidy
· Looking after a certain department based on your interests alongside paid staff
· Acting as an ambassador for the British Heart Foundation
