Volunteer Drivers will support individuals with dementia and possibly their carer/supporter to maintain independence and access Alzheimer Scotland Community Activities and Café. Drivers will be responsible for the safe transfer of individuals from their home to the activity and back again. Volunteer Drivers can engage in the activity or drop off the individual and return for them to transport them safely home at the end of the activity.
Drivers should have a well maintained vehicle and Alzheimer Scotland will be required to have copies of vehicle/driver documentation. Drivers should have space to store a walking aid should the service user require such aids. Drivers may be asked to support more than 1 service user to/from the activity. Community Activities/Café take place in and around the City of Dundee. Monday-Friday.
Do you love to drive? Do you want to help older people stay healthy and independent at home? YES! Then this is a great volunteering opportunity for you.
Our trusted, reliable and friendly volunteers provide a vital weekly food shopping service which helps older people stay healthy and independent at home.
Volunteer Drivers normally dedicate one day a week to Food Train with a minimum time commitment of between four and five hours starting around 9.30am and finishing around 14:30pm.
On Mondays our Volunteer Drivers collect shopping lists from our customers. This involves going to customers’ homes accompanied by a Volunteer Helper, checking shopping lists are correct and clearly written and in some cases writing lists for customers.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays Volunteer Drivers deliver shopping around the Galashiels, Hawick and Selkirk areas accompanied by a Volunteer Helper. Shopping is collected from Tesco or Asda in Galashiels already boxed and is delivered in a dedicated Food Train van to each customers’ home where it is unpacked, checked and put away if required.
We provide a van for deliveries and all equipment to support this activity.
This social and active post will help keep you fit and active whilst providing an invaluable service to the local community.

We are a growing Social Enterprise that gives opportunities to veterans and others with disabilities here in Renfrewshire. Our main product is signage - large and small for which we have a large customer base all across Scotland.
Volunteering to drive for SBMC will enable us to deliver our products (predominantly road signs and custom signs) to our customers. It will also help to reduce our overheads (costs of carriers and couriers) considerably end help maximise funding towards further employment opportunities.
Drivers will need to be able to climb up onto the rear of the vehicle and may need to assist in loading and unloading small items. Most signage will be loaded by forklift on pallets but smaller, handheld loads are common too. Good navigation skills are essential as is good manner with customers and depot managers.
Our van is a modern 3.0 tonne MAN "Curtain Sider" - a nice vehicle to drive and a normal car licence will suffice. All potential volunteers will complete a quick driving assessment on local roads, be shown how to operate aspects of the load bay and any driving controls relevant to the van. Volunteers will need to submit licence details and licence access codes. Drivers need to be over the age of 25 due to our insurance limitations.
We will happily support volunteers with references for future employers and help in production of CVs etc if needed. Many of our volunteers join us for the social aspect of being "part of something" whilst also contributing to our mission. Others see it as a route back towards employment after time out of the workplace.
Recent volunteers are a diverse mix of people including an airline pilot on gardening leave, retired HGV driver, an unemployed individual looking to keep busy and build references and veterans looking to support our social enterprise. Volunteer drivers have been a huge help to us in our first few years and continue to support our growth.
Moray School Bank are looking to expand our team of volunteers! As part of our new project, ‘It
Takes a Village’ (ITAV) we aim to improve and build community connections across Moray.
Alongside our school uniform referral programme and other existing services, we will be looking into
ways of promoting recycling of school uniform and other clothing items to reduce waste and ease
financial costs for all families. For us to be able to achieve our aims, It Takes A Volunteer!
We have a host of roles and opportunities to suit all types of volunteers and there is the flexibility
and options of booking 2-hour slots (an ideal taster session!), volunteering from your own home or
come and join a community group! If you are enthusiastic and willing to learn new things, full training
and support to develop new skills will be provided and if you already experienced, we would love to
have your skills to share.
Current roles include; Donation Processing volunteers, Winter Campaign volunteers, Events &
Fundraising, Social Media volunteers, Youth Volunteer Team, Community Garden volunteers and
Mini-Bus drivers.
If you would like any further information on any of the roles or would like to book a session, this can
be done via our website www.morayschoolbank.org or by emailing our Volunteer Coordinator,
Moyra Younie moyra@morayschoolbank.org
Are you a Cricket fan? Want to get involved through volunteering.
Like all sports, cricket needs people who take on organisational and officiating roles to make it possible for others to play. Every match played requires a host of volunteer input to make them run smoothly so whether you want to get involved as a Scorer, Umpire, Match Secretary, Coaches and assistants, Captains, Parental Liaison, Schools, Volunteer driver there will always be an opportunity for you?
We currently have opportunities for people to become involved in:
· Scoring – keeping match scores, maintaining statistics etc.
· Umpiring- the cricket equivalent of refereeing
We run two adult teams which play on Saturdays, Sundays and on some mid-week evenings and are looking to recruit scorers and umpires for both teams.
These opportunities would be suitable for people who have an interest in sport, but do not wish to participate as players. They provide an opportunity to be part of the team, without taking part in the more physical elements of the game. There are established pathways in these disciplines that allow people to progress from officiating at local clubs through to international sport. Get in touch to start your volunteering journey at Strathmore Cricket Club.
Are you happy to volunteer using your own vehicle?
Do you have a few hours a week to spare and enjoy meeting people?
If you’re an active person looking for a flexible volunteer driver role then come and join our friendly team. Without Volunteer Stock Collection Drivers we can’t collect our generous donors’ items, and our shops won’t be able to beat heartbreak forever.
We need help now more than ever to collect donated items from our supporters when they are unable to bring them into our shop themselves. You will need to be physically fit and active for this driver role due to the lifting and carrying of donation bags in and out of the vehicle.
It will be your responsibility to ensure that you have a full, valid driving licence and that your vehicle is correctly insured for carrying out collections of BHF donations – don’t worry, we can help you with this. You’ll use your own vehicle and travel will be reimbursed at the HMRC rate (currently 45p per mile).
