Responsibilities will include:
Help organising monthly carer support groups, including booking venues and inviting attendees, setting up and clearing down. In the case of an online group, this would involve providing administrative support via Zoom.
Attending groups along with a Carer Support Worker to help facilitate, including meeting and greeting, provision of refreshments and promoting discussion and peer support.
CoEL are seeking to recruit volunteers to help organise and facilitate the range of events, training and workshops we offer to carers throughout the year.
This programme of events and training aims to increase carer's confidence in their caring role, to encourage engagement in peer support, and to provide an opportunity to take part in enjoyable activities for some welcome respite. With the help of volunteers we hope to expand our reach and the range of events and workshops we can provide.
Volunteers will help to organise and facilitate events and training for carers across the year, with a particular focus on activities over Carers Week.
The 60 Plus Drop In has been operating since 2016 and meets weekly from 2pm – 4pm on a Wednesday. The last Wednesday of the month is the lunch club which meets at 1pm until 2.30/3pm.
We are looking for volunteers to help run the clubs, this would involve setting up, planning activities and helping with these, making tea/coffee etc half way through. The members clear this up and wash the dishes etc. We often have guest speakers or agencies in as well as running activities ourselves.
Most of the members are in their late 70’s and 80’s hence the need to look for more volunteers to help with the club and keep it running. The volunteers would need to start at 1.30pm but should be finished around 4pm as everyone helps clear up.
Volunteers for the lunch club would start earlier in the morning as we cook the lunch at the Centre and help prepare and dish this up as well as clearing up.
We also will be look for volunteer drivers to pick up people around the Scalloway area and mileage would be paid.
Volunteering at parkrun is an opportunity to get outside, make new friends, have fun, learn new skills and to be a valuable part of your local community. We are always looking for new volunteers. This page explains how to get involved.
What would I do at the Event?
First, and most importantly, we never ask anybody to do anything they're not comfortable with. If you don't want a particular task, please let us know and we will happily give you an alternative job. Nevertheless, none of our tasks are too stressful. You could be marshaling, or using the parkrun volunteer app to record times or scan barcodes, operating the timer, or scanning barcodes using the simple Virtual Volunteer app. If you really want to do something in particular, please let us know and we'll see what we can do. To find out more, please visit our website https://www.parkrun.org.uk/girvanprom/ or have a look at our page on Facebook.
The core team: Girvan Prom parkrun happens largely because of our fantastic volunteers. The weekly team of volunteers are led by a small group of parkrun enthusiasts who form what we call the 'core team': They make sure the event is setup and packed away each week, the results published, the tokens resorted, event reports written and so much more.
Event Director - Moira McDowall. We're very grateful to the help provided by everybody, both now and in the past, who've helped make Girvan Prom parkrun happen.
