Spirit of Springburn SCIO is a community-led charity, active in Springburn. We set up the charity to take forward the work identified during SoS's community consultation held in 2019, (reviews 2021 and 2023). This work involves following up the community action plan created through various community engagements, forums and discussions, held to pinpoint ways to develop Springburn, the community, the town centre area, to identify new opportunities and encourage investment in our communities. The Trustee role is a key player in the creation, development and management of the platform on which we enforce this commitment.
Currently, we have a People Make Glasgow Communities application to take on the management of the Springburn Museum and Library, on Ayr Street, Springburn. We intend using this as a base for a new community development trust. Key research into local partners, tenants, income generation, etc, has been undertaken however it is imperative we add expertise in this area to the mix.
We also have a community hub in Springburn Shopping Centre which is the community facing space (foodbank, fridge, local support services, local councillors' surgeries etc).
We need Trustees who have business management and development experience, property management experience and a love of people. We need commitment, time and support to build a very much-needed resource for Springburn. One that is already making a considerable difference in the area.
We're a multi cultural area so we need a good communicator with a sensitive/anti discriminatory approach. We also deal with businesses, community organisations and, unfortunately, many souls living a difficult sometimes destitute life. You need to be able to deal with extremes with compassion and understanding.
We would ask that a fair amount of time be spent in the building up of the charity's governance, structure and sustainability so a little more availability would be a great help to us.
If you are interested in applying for this opportunity please click 'Apply' below (available if registered and logged in). We will reply to your email within 5 working days when we will arrange to meet you for an informal chat. If you have not heard from us within this time, please contact Volunteer Glasgow.
