Tayside Re-Users try their best to avoid ditching furniture in landfill. Some of the household goods we receive require upholstering to make them suitable for resale in our shop. We have a dedicated area for upholstery but the ideal volunteer would be looking to develop their existing upholstery skills.
Tayside Re-users regularly receives donations of bicycles. Some require repair before they are ready for resale in our shop. We have a dedicated repair area and this has repair equipment and supplies of spare parts. This opportunity would suit someone who has a passion for bikes, experience of bike repairs and able to carry out basic repairs to bikes to give them a new lease of life.
Tayside Re-Users believes that it is important to challenge the ideals of our ‘throw-away’ society by showing that second-hand goods are just as acceptable as new ones. We are looking for an experienced electrician to help us by testing and repairing appliances before they are re-sold to the community.
As an environmental charity, we aim to keep as much as we can out of landfill. One of our main areas of work is recycling electrical goods. This involves recording incoming goods, cleaning and repair and PAT Testing. This role would suit someone who is familiar with the workings of white goods and able to carry out repairs. If you are interested in a diverse role which can help the community, this one is for you!
Some donations which Tayside Re-users receive are not suitable for restoring to their original condition and these are upcycled into something new instead. For this, Tayside Re-users need a Paint Sprayer. This will involve using our spray booth and spray equipment to upcycle household goods and furniture. This opportunity would suit someone who is considering a trade as a career. Paint spraying experience is preferred but basic training can be given.
We have opportunities for domestic assistants. Each person will be responsible for the general cleanliness of communal areas to include toilets, corridors, reception and one small and one large hall. A member of staff will demonstrate training regarding equipment and chemical dilution rates. Volunteers would be encouraged to obtain a Moving & Handling and a First Aid qualification. . An average of 3 hours per day is required. Volunteer should read notice board for updates regarding training or fundraising activities.
