Team Jak provides practical and emotional support to children and young people with cancer and related illnesses, their family and friends and those bereaved.
Team Jak Ambassadors can have different roles including family support and fundraising, including - raising awareness and fundraising opportunities such as bag packs, helping at a merchandise stand and collection buckets in supermarkets, schools, colleges, shopping centres and concerts.
We will be hosting a number of larger fundraising events in Aberdeen throughout the year with the aim to raise £70,000 to open our Jak’s Den in Aberdeen.
Family support roles can be rewarding and involve anything from playing with the children during our activity days and at our child and teenage groups, to making tea and coffee at our support sessions, talking with parents, sorting out merchandise bags and delivering to our newly diagnosed warriors in hospital, and preparing items for events.
Volunteers receive initial induction training, ongoing support and any further relevant training opportunities. Team Jak have an Awards scheme and we hold a yearly event dedicated to thanking our volunteers and celebrating their success. All volunteers make a real difference and are greatly appreciated.

1st Lenzie Company, The Boys’ Brigade is looking for one or more volunteers to help with our youth work in the Anchors Boys section on term time Friday evenings between around 6:10pm and 7:30pm. If you would like to help but unable to commit to every week we would still like to hear from you.
We are looking for volunteers to help Primary 1 to 3 boys with activities, games, sport, arts and crafts. Whatever you can help with is greatly valued.
Helping out in a BB group with can make all the difference to young lives – meaning happier young people, happier communities and a society that values the contribution that we can all make; young, old or in-between.
The Boy’s Brigade has faith in young people and provides them with opportunities to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment which is rooted in the Christian faith.

Regardless of however much time you can spare your efforts will make a difference. Our volunteers are very much appreciated! If you want to help out with animal care at the shelter it is always ideal if you can make it on a regular basis, this helps to build up your knowledge of the sanctuary and the care that you give. Guinea pig cuddling can be on a much more ad hoc basis; we just ask that you let us know when you are coming.
Some volunteers are very happy to handle guinea pigs, others would rather work at the sanctuary but away from the piggies - we're flexible and very understanding. Some tasks that you might consider are:
- Feeding and cuddling guinea pigs
- Filling water water and tidying
- Tidying and sorting stores and donations
- Food preparation for guinea pigs
- Washing dishes and clearing
- Welcoming and greeting customers
We also support young people with their Saltire and Duke of Edinburgh awards volunteering experiences.
Children’s Hospices Across Scotland - CHAS (Clacks)
Volunteer gardeners are an integral part of the hospice garden team, planting, clearing leaves, cutting grass and making the garden a welcoming and relaxing environment for children and families. It’s important to CHAS that the garden looks its best at all times to help families relax as possible during their stay at the hospice and also fun for the children.
WHAT ACTIVITIES WILL I BE INVOLVED IN?
- Grass cutting
- General gardening: weeding, clearing leaves, tidying
- Assisting with planting, pruning etc.
- Assisting in the development of new areas of ground
- Keeping paths and driveways tidy
- Clearing snow and gritting drives, car parks and paths in winter, as necessary
WHAT SKILLS AND ABILITIES WILL I NEED TO HAVE?
- An outgoing and friendly personality
- An enjoyment of gardening
- A flexible approach
- An ability to undertake physical work outdoors

Children’s Hospices Across Scotland - CHAS (Clacks)
Housekeeping volunteers are an essential part of the Rachel House Housekeeping Team. CHAS are looking for friendly, enthusiastic people who take a pride in maintaining a homely environment to join the team. The aim of this role is to work within a team to keep the hospice clean, tidy and welcoming. The Hospice should be a home from home for children and families who come to the hospice for rest and relaxation.
WHAT ACTIVITIES WILL I BE INVOLVED IN?
Supporting the Housekeeping Team with general housekeeping duties such as:
- Light housework
- Vacuuming
- General cleaning of bathrooms
- Laundry
- Changing beds
- Cleaning of rooms
- Clearing away after meal times when necessary
- Assisting in the cleaning of low level windows
- Tidying the art room, computer rooms and play areas
- Toy cleaners work specifically within the Activities Team keeping toys clean and hygienic
WHAT SKILLS AND ABILITIES WILL I NEED TO HAVE?
- An enjoyment of housework
- A willingness and ability for a more energetic role
