Central Dalkeith & Woodburn Pantry is a community-run food initiative, set up by members of the local community in response to the cost of living crisis. We provide an affordable weekly food shop to our members as well as free fruit and vegetables, period products, pet food and bakery items.
Our friendly team of volunteers is essential to the running of the Pantry in helping us to set up, move stock, greet our customers, operate the till, assist with shopping and packing, and tidy at the end of the day.
The Pantry operates from the MARC building at 10 Woodburn Road, and is open every Friday from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. We begin set-up at 9am on Friday morning and have several timeslots during the day which our volunteers can choose from to come and help out.
Our vision for Christmas is simple, we want to be able to provide delicious and nutritious food to people who are currently homeless or experiencing food poverty. We believe in meeting people’s basic needs for food and shelter, and at the same time as building positive relationships providing individuals with opportunities to make the changes they want to make in their lives. Our Christmas Eve and Day allows people to sit in, have a Christmas meal and to not be alone this Christmas.
A fantastic opportunity and all help makes a real difference for people we support and is greatly appreciated.

Part of the Parental Employment Support (PES) programme, Project Scotland is now recruiting volunteer mentors to support an individual in their community to overcome barriers they face in sustaining jobs or progressing in work.
Our PES mentors offer one-to-one support to a local parent (mentee) they are matched with for 1 hour every 1-2 weeks. This role will involve getting to know your mentee and the challenges they may face, discussing their future goals, sharing your own experiences or skills and ultimately champion them to progress in life and work.
Our volunteers do not need to have any specific career experience or qualification – just a positive and empathetic mindset and a passion for helping others to succeed.
