We’re looking for friendly, sociable people to bring HMS Unicorn’s history to life for our visitors. We’re the oldest ship in Scotland so there’s lots of stories to tell about our past! You will be trained to give tours of HMS Unicorn to our visitors and answer their questions. You’ll develop an understanding of and enthusiasm for our historic ship combined with excellent customer service and communication skills.
Volunteers will be given relevant training and support by the Volunteering, Engagement and Learning Officer.
Giving tours will involve being able to move between decks using the ladderways (only ways of access) around the ship.
The key tasks will include:
• Learning about the history of HMS Unicorn.
• Working with members of the public – giving tours and answering questions in a helpful and friendly way.
• Supporting the Museum staff in acting as the main point of welcome for all visitors to HMS Unicorn.

• Working with people of all ages, especially children
• Being friendly and helpful to our visitors to give them a great experience at our events

We are looking for practical people who will help us to maintain the general upkeep of HMS Unicorn for our visitors now and in the future. This will be done through cleaning and other practical tasks on board the ship and on the dockside and approach to the ship. There will also be the opportunity to assist the Maintenance Officer with longer ongoing projects on board the ship.
You will develop an enthusiasm for our historic ship and knowledge of its layout and structure as well as practical skills in keeping it clean and presentable. Volunteers will be given relevant training and supported in these activities.
The key tasks will include:
• Sweeping the decks
• Weeding and maintaining the garden areas in the dockside
• Maintaining the windows and gun ports
• Cleaning out different areas of the ship
• Carrying out other practical tasks as directed by staff

No matter how good our services are, we can't properly support our community well if we don't have good Support people in the team. If this sounds like you?... we would love you to consider volunteering with us for a few hours per week.
Providing a number of services to support ex-service men and women and family members from the Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, and the Merchant Navy. These include giving advice and information about benefits, financial support and social activities to assist them adapting to civilian life. If we are unable to help them then we signpost them to other agencies through local contacts.
We require an enthusiastic, computer literate individual to work alongside the office co-ordinator within out office. We are looking for someone who is able to keep our records up to date, keeping and maintaining data, updating social media pages regularly, work on and issue the bi-monthly newsletter, looking up service records and greeting members of the public and dealing with their inquiry. Tasks can be flexible and the volunteer would need to be flexible to completing other tasks such as updating the display cabinets and helping in the Heritage Centre
Devil's Porridge, Eastriggs and Gretna Heritage Group (SCIO)
The Devil's Porridge Museum is based at Eastriggs in the Annandale and Eskdale area of Dumfries and Galloway. There are different opportunities to meet and greet visitors to the Museum or help in the café or play your part behind the scenes
Moffat Museum is looking to recruit additional volunteer team members to offer a warm welcome to this museum of local interest. Volunteers ensure that the museum is opened to the public, provide basic information to visitors and generally manage the museum. Volunteers work in pairs and are supported by the museum trustees.
In addition to the items on display the aviation museum has a vast collection of books, documents, uniforms and other historical items all stored in large hangers. The archivist will be part of a small team who are working on logging all the items which the museum own. If you have a love of history or enjoy cataloguing and administration this could be role for you.
Do you like chatting to people, then volunteering at the Aviation museum could be the role for you. The role covers both the museum shop and cafe. As well as selling entry tickets volunteers, keep the shop neat, tidy and well stocked and sell souvenirs to visitors. Connected to the shop is a small cafe area where volunteers sell light refreshments to visitors. Volunteers work in small teams to cover the shop and cafe so you will have company whilst you volunteer.
To keep exhibits in good order routine restoration and maintenance work is undertaken both on aircraft, the buildings and displays. If you have good basic DIY skills or a woodworking/engineering background this may be the role for you.
