DBPSS regards its volunteers as a vital support in the delivery of its services and social activities for its visually impaired Members. Our rewarding roles are a great way to give back and get involved with your local community. We are currently looking for enthusiastic, helpful, and willing to get involved volunteers to join our small friendly team. The roles will involve assisting the team to enable them to deliver the activities, and volunteers would be required to help prepare and serve refreshments, assist in the activities (bingo calling experience would be great!), sit and chat with the Members, help us in the kitchen and the dreaded tidying up after activities! A full driving licence would also be helpful.

Your role will include interacting with online members giving feedback on the creative arts posts they leave in a positive constructive way. Having a creative, positive and constructive approach will be required. Mentoring will be provided. Spread your wings and come fly with us.

Our Save the Children Shop in Broughty Ferry has been a much loved part of the local community for years and continues to be hugely popular with customers and supporters, thanks to the kindness and generosity of the wonderful volunteer team. If you would like to volunteer with us all you will need is some enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference. The role is diverse, taking place on the shop floor and behind the scenes. Volunteer tasks include anything from sorting donations, steaming clothes, pricing products, managing the till, and helping with the window displays. You can choose how much time you dedicate, and we’ll give you training and support along the way. No special skills are needed, and we welcome people from all nationalities and backgrounds. Your donation of time, creativity and kindness can help us change the future for children all over the world!

You don't need to be a social media or marketing expert for this role - just able to use the internet, email and confident talking to people. We’ll tell you about our latest national fundraising activities, emergency appeals and campaign messages so you can tell others and encourage them to take part, support and attend events. You’ll research local opportunities, and contact local businesses, schools and local groups. You’ll also find free ways to tell your community about what’s happening locally and nationally. The Community Fundraising Manager is only a phone call away for support and you’ll meet up with them regularly to make promotional plans and for any mutual updates. It’s a really flexible role which can fit around your other commitments. If you’re over 18 and can commit to at least two hours a week for a minimum of six months please get in touch.

Volunteering as a garden grower within the Ninewells Community Garden can involve a number of activities. In general the role will involve: • Working as part of the gardening team. • Assisting in practical aspects of developing and maintaining the garden. • General gardening maintenance tasks such as weeding, deadheading, tidying the wider surroundings of the garden, watering, pruning etc. • Working cooperatively with other volunteers, visitors and residents from the neighbouring communities. • Communicating with the facilitator and/or board of trustees about needs or concerns to ensure a safe, accessible and enjoyable environment. • Assisting with household duties (washing, cleaning etc.) in our Leaf Room to ensure a healthy and safe indoor environment. • Supporting the greater objectives of the community garden and be an ambassador of the garden. We offer additional opportunities to share your skills, interests and ideas such as landscaping, planning and design; specific horticultural expertise; wildlife and nature surveys; other supporting skills such as administration, marketing, art & design, events, education etc. Please speak to us about these opportunities.

Did you know over 1million people in Scotland are affected by sensory loss? We need you help! We are looking for people aged 18+ to become volunteer Citizen Advocates, to help people in your community living with a sensory loss. Can you dedicate time & make a long term commitment to another person? There is no specific qualifications necessary, life experience and a desire to making a difference in the lives of people living with sensory loss is all that is required. All applicants will be trained and PVG checked prior to being paired with a advocacy partner. As an advocate you will: • Help your Advocacy Partner to make informed choices • Help your Advocacy Partner to communicate their views • Support your Partner in meeting new people and gain access into their community • Help your Partner access support to which they are entitled • Befriend and share in social activities

We’re looking for friendly, sociable people to bring HMS Unicorn’s history to life for our visitors. We’re the oldest ship in Scotland so there’s lots of stories to tell about our past! You will be trained to give tours of HMS Unicorn to our visitors and answer their questions. You’ll develop an understanding of and enthusiasm for our historic ship combined with excellent customer service and communication skills. Volunteers will be given relevant training and support by the Volunteering, Engagement and Learning Officer. Giving tours will involve being able to move between decks using the ladderways (only ways of access) around the ship. The key tasks will include: • Learning about the history of HMS Unicorn. • Working with members of the public – giving tours and answering questions in a helpful and friendly way. • Supporting the Museum staff in acting as the main point of welcome for all visitors to HMS Unicorn. As a Director/Charity Trustee you will join other Directors with varying skilsl, knowledge & expertise. The Board provides strategic leadership and governance for the charity, members and beneficiaries. Principle responsibilities include: Proper and appropriate use of funds and ensuring funders' needs and obligations are met; Ensuring financial stability through active fundraising participation; Ensuring the organisation complies with its Articles of Association; Compliance with relevant legislation. e.g Care Inspectorate, OSCR, Companies House etc.; Protect and manage the property of the organisation; and Appoint and support employees, where the need arises. Use specific knowledge or experience to help the Board reach sound business decisions through attendance and participation at board meetings and follow up sub-committee meetings. Participate in other tasks when required to meet the needs of the organisation. In addition, there are several roles where staff or Board responsibilities are nor clearly defined but rather a joint one eg. Promoting the organisation.
