Bield Housing and Care are looking for volunteer Befrienders to join the team at retirement housing development, Priorwood Court, Melrose.
Bield volunteers help reduce isolation and loneliness by supporting older people in a variety of ways. Our Befrienders might visit someone in their own home, or offer companionship by helping them to get out and about locally. We are ideally looking for someone to help out weekly or once every two weeks, for just a couple of hours.
An induction day will be held for successful applicants and you will receive further training and ongoing support. Expenses will be provided and the minimum age for the role is 18 years old.

The purpose of this role is to staff the Alzheimer Scotland Borders Service Resource Hub in Kelso with reception, providing information and signposting to local services and resource leaflets, as well as also being there to meet and greet people with dementia and carers.
Role Description:
1. To welcome visitors and service users.
2. Answer the telephone and take accurate messages.
3. Attend dementia awareness training and attend any other necessary training relevant to the volunteering role.
4. To carry out other reasonable duties requested of the volunteer.
The purpose of this role is to assist in facilitating within community groups organised by Alzheimer Scotland Borders Service.
We have community group activities across the Scottish Borders for people living with dementia and their carers. We require the help of volunteers to help facilitate these groups, which could include things such as setting up activity rooms, making tea or coffee, or chatting to people living with dementia and carers.
Role Description:
1. Help in assisting in the running of a community group as requested by group leader.
2. To enable individuals to meet with others with similar interests.
3. To communicate with people with dementia, family members and staff within the community group setting.
4. To attend training to be informed about dementia and to attend any other necessary training relevant to volunteering role.
