Do you want to help people to deal with the challenges of work and life? The Business Connection (TBC) is a charity founded by 4 Christian businessmen to ‘encourage, equip and empower men and women working in the corporate business environment’. Although founded on Christian principles we support people of all faiths and none. We run fortnightly Tuesday breakfasts at the Holiday Inn Express, Chapel Street, Aberdeen giving folks a chance to meet informally to be encouraged & supported and signposted to appropriate help. We also run a monthly breakfast on the last Friday of the month at the Palm Court Hotel when we have a guest speaker. The topics are aimed at bringing useful content on wellbeing, personal development and practical guidance. In March 2019, TBC held its inaugural ‘Thrive’ conference in Aberdeen. This was to encourage those of a Christian faith in how they could thrive within the marketplace. With guest speakers from across the UK and the USA the excellent feedback received, both on content and quality of the conference, has led to plans being made for Thrive 2020 not only in Aberdeen but also expanding to Edinburgh. Exciting times! Jim Grimmer, co-founder & managing trustee cut back from full-time work in 2015 to dedicate 2 days a week, on a voluntary basis, to the development of TBC. TBC has now grown to some 300 individuals on the events mailing list and has become known for its work across the UK. Jim is also founder of a social enterprise P3 Business Care bringing personal & proactive care to employees in business in partnership with their employer and with his team, is visiting businesses on a weekly basis across the UK so no longer has the capacity to manage TBC. The opportunity of Volunteer Operations Manager of TBC has fantastic potential. Currently the fortnightly breakfasts takes place in the City centre however there is an opportunity to expand the breakfasts to multiple locations across the city on different days. There is also work to be done in developing our relationships with the local church ideally identifying a TBC focal point from the business community within each church and creating a network of TBC contacts. We have a great volunteer opportunity to join our excellent team of volunteers as a Cathedral Caretaker is responsible for the general upkeep and presentation of the Cathedral and associated properties. Duties will include: *Routine maintenance and heavier-duty cleaning, supporting the existing cleaning team when appropriate; *Conducting scheduled safety checks and tests in accordance with statutory requirements; *Being a responsible key-holder for emergency access to the buildings *Preparing venues and providing access to buildings for external-hire events; securing premises after the event; *Being the primary contact and providing access to buildings for contractors and officials visiting the Cathedral; *Ensuring all boilers / radiators are working efficiently and boilers are regularly inspected/serviced by a qualified tradesperson. *Setting of heating in accordance with Cathedral diary of events Relevant training and good support is provided to all volunteers, with all help greatly appreciated. We are a church based community project working in the North of Ayr. Our mission includes a music group, an after school club, work within local schools and faith based outreach events. We are looking for volunteers to help us out in our afterschool programme. Volunteers can choose to do all or some of the following: - Welcoming people in the venue and helping in the registration. - Making sure participants fill in the signing sheet - Accept payment - Setting up and clearing up of the venue - Help out in activities with participants such as arts & crafts, basic cooking & baking - Help in fun activities with young participants This volunteering opportunity would be great for Saltire awards volunteers, volunteers needing experience working with children and volunteers willing to participate in groups. The Swing Cafe is located within Colinton Parish Church, Dell Road, Colinton, Edinburgh, and is run by volunteers whose tasks vary from serving our customers, clearing tables, preparing food and washing up/operating the dishwasher. Our volunteers work two to six hours on a weekly or fornightly rota. The choice is yours. The Swing Cafe opened in 1999, with the aim or providing a welcoming space for Colinton folk and beyond. The name originated from a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson.

The Stirling Interfaith Community Justice Group (SICJG) is a charitable organisation (charity no. SC042540), that works alongside the Scottish Prison Service to deliver support and assistance to families visiting those in custody. They are located in the Family Help Hub at HMP and YOI Cornton Vale and the Visitor Centre at HMP Glenochil. The aim of the Family Help Hub is to provide a supportive, friendly and welcoming environment for families visiting relatives or loved ones in prison. Support is provided by staff and trained volunteers to ensure experiences of prison visiting are less stressful and more positive, thereby encouraging more frequent visits and maintaining family ties in order to reduce re-offending, increase the stability of children's lives and achieve positive long-term outcomes for all of the family. What is the role of a volunteer? · The group have many volunteers from various backgrounds and different levels of experience with the criminal justice system. However, training is given to all volunteers so no experience is necessary. · You will be based at one of the centres and will be responsible for welcoming visitors before they head to their visits. You will usually provide teas and coffees. · If someone is visiting for the first time, you will sit down with them and talk them through the processes and signpost them to any help from other services. · Volunteers will be expected to help in building relationships with visitors and looking out for any signs that they may need additional help or support during the visit. Children’s visits: One of the main activities that SICJG coordinate is children’s visits. These are more relaxed and allow the children to interact with their parents freely. The group are even involved with organising parties throughout the year, such as Easter, Halloween and Christmas.
