The Starfish Way is looking for mentors to work on a 1-2-1 basis with our fabulous young people with varied additional support needs. Based at Megginch Castle Estate and/or Perth we seek Mentors who are empathetic and patient with an understanding of the challenges faced by young people experiencing a variety of additional support needs without preconception or judgement. Mentors will provide guidance, support and inspiration to young people, build trusted relationships and offer a safe and nurturing environment for the young people to thrive.

Gardeners Urgently Needed!
Based at the beautiful and historic Megginch Castle Estate by Errol, Perthshire we are looking for enthusiastic gardeners to help maintain an area of the Walled Garden. We have very kindly been gifted the use of this piece of land for the Starfish Way where we work with young people with varied Additional Support Needs. We are urgently looking for gardeners to help us maintain and develop this area as well as experienced gardeners who would be willing to work alongside our fabulous young people and share their knowledge and expertise.

Your role as the Food Pantry Customer Assistant is to help customers who come into the Food Pantry, offering information and assistance as they are enquiring, browsing or purchasing food.
Your role will be to assist new and current members learn about the Pantry and do their shopping. We will give you full training on how it works, equipment used, systems to follow etc. You will always be volunteering as part of a team of volunteers with a staff team leader present.
As there will be a café on the premises, there will be an opportunity to benefit from Barista training.
DUTIES: The role of the Food Pantry Customer Assistant will be as follows:
• Assist customers to the Pantry, engaging in conversation
• Offer information on how the Pantry works
• Offer signposting to other services where necessary
• Operate till with cash / card handling
• Restock and rotate shelves and fridges as required
• Clean and sanitise according to guidance
Cafe 141 is adjacent to the Community Centre this allows us to reinforce the community focus in the area, which includes local shops, doctor’s surgery and a pharmacy. It is hoped that it will provide a natural meeting place for all sections of the local community, create a suitable venue for adult events and our Monthly Seniors Teas and provide a facility for local teenagers.
Your main duties will be to greet customers, take orders, clear tables and clean dishes.
To develop relationships with local and national businesses or individuals who would help to sponsor club activities e.g. travel for the youth section, kits at all levels, take pitch side advertising, develop on line advertising through Facebook and Website (website under construction). Help to co-ordinate events and activities for fund raising e.g. charity shop on an annual basis.

The Comradeship Circles service aims to reduce loneliness by offering older members of the ex-service community the opportunity to enjoy regular group camaraderie by telephone. A Comradeship Circle will host typically six people on the same day and time each week to chat about a range of topics and interests over the phone.
We are looking for Technical Support Volunteers who will ensure the smooth running of the Comradeship Circle by connecting veterans to the call, monitoring connection throughout the hour, and updating the contact management database. This role is home based and requires access to a laptop, headphones, and the internet.
We are currently seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. The role of Treasurer is to oversee the financial governance of the organisation. The day to day financial management of the charity is carried out by our staff team together with external financial professionals including a bookkeeper and payroll provider. The Treasurer will be required to attend Board Meetings roughly every 6 weeks, which are currently being held on Zoom, though may return to in person, in Gullane, in the future.
Peebles Community Action Network (CAN) - The Road to Carbon Reduction
We seek assistance in the garden with horticultural activities, tea and coffee making, wood storing/collection, building garden structures and involvement in our various carbon saving projects.
Volunteering at the Peebles CAN community garden has been ongoing for several years, and offers a broad range of opportunities, including:
Planting – sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, feeding and watering plants
Plant care – variety of activities, such as pruning tomatoes and fruit bushes, earthing up potatoes, cultivating runners
Maintaining the garden – weeding, raking, edging beds, putting up protective netting structures, building a brash hedge, willow weaving, composting, strimming and mowing
Woodwork – building structures for the garden, bordering patches, maintaining the yurt, and building netting frames.
Tea and Coffee is made on the camp stove and is offered during volunteer sessions.
All our tasks are seasonal, so jobs to do in the garden are always changing!
Volunteer sessions at the community garden are delivered on weekdays, please check our website for times.
We can also work with volunteers (such as Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme) who are interested in taking on a larger volunteer “contract” with us. Please get in touch to discuss.
