If you can spare one day per week or fortnight then you could drive The Food Train van around the area collecting shopping lists or making grocery deliveries to our customers, providing vital social contact for isolated people. You would have another volunteer helper with you to help deliver the groceries and manage the payments. Shopping orders are collected on one day and taken to the shops, where the orders are prepared ready to be delivered the next day. Knowledge of the local area helpful but not essential, street maps and full vehicle insurance provided.
Your assistance will be required both during the day with a strong presence on hand when the festival is live to assist with information and assistance to ensure correct disposal of waste from bars, caterers, etc. Please note that though this team is rotated during the festival, all volunteers will be required at the end of Saturday night for a final clear up. If you are available. Some help would also be useful earlier in the week to ensure that disposal areas are properly labelled and in the correct place. Or if you can help during the clear up the following week you will earn our eternal gratitude!

Volunteer Befrienders are ‘matched’ with an older person who is living independently in their own home but who is experiencing social isolation and loneliness. This may be due to bereavement, ill-health, increasing frailty or loosing contacts within their community.
Volunteers will be matched with an older person close to where they live. By being a regular and reliable visitor to the older person the volunteer helps to increase confidence on staying at home and improves someone’s quality of life.
A weekly or fortnightly visit of around an hour may be home visit to chat over a cuppa, do crosswords or other games, or an outing to a nearby café, shops or local beauty spot.
The activities within the befriending visit are based on the needs and wishes of the older person.
