‘Volunteering never goes out of style!’
This is an opportunity to undertake a satisfying and rewarding role.
As part of our team of volunteers, you will raise the profile of the charity shop, increase the sale of goods and increase donations through social media.
Social media volunteers will remind people just how good it can feel to have a tidy up at home and free up space, and encourage more people to donate things they no longer need.
Sometimes even the most wonderful donation will sit on a charity shop’s shelf for many weeks before the right person comes in and makes it their own. However, by making the most of social media to promote stock to local people, you could increase the chances of that special something being snapped up sooner.
By sharing photos of donated items along with a short message explaining where the money goes, you can show that whether it’s a board game or a pair of shoes, every donation helps.
• Promote the Benbecula Thrift shop and increase sales of donated and new goods using the shops own Facebook page
• Help us to set up Instagram and social media
• Prepare content to share on other social media platforms
• To assist in the sale of more valuable items through online platforms, for example eBay/Facebook/Amazon (although this is not a necessary requirement)
• To assist in ensuring that health and safety processes are followed, and general maintenance issues are reported
• To promote public understanding of the work of Benbecula Thrift Shop and the importance of raising funds through the shop
• Take photos of stock for social media
• Carry out other tasks as required
"Its very interesting and you meet all sorts of people."
"Its something you are doing for the community and for charity."
"It keeps your mind active and healthy. We laugh a lot!"
This is what our volunteers said when we asked them why they do it. These are the views of 3 our volunteers who between them have been with us for 27 years!
Volunteers are needed to assist with various retail duties, including:
- cashiering
- greeting and helping customers
- sorting new donations
- displaying merchandise
Full induction will be provided and the opportunity for further training in first aid and health and safety.
Midlothian Scouts currently do not have a District Secretary and we need one! We need your help to volunteer to become an Executive member. Do you have good administration skills? Would you prefer to support more ‘behind the scenes’? Can you help keep our records in order?
You will play a key role by leading the administrative work for Midlothian Scouts. No previous secretarial experience is needed, we just need someone who is good at admin and keeping records. This is an exciting central which could take about 2 hours or so per month only!
The Secretary will support the Chair of the Executive Committee to ensure the smooth functioning and sound administration of the Scout Group for instance.
* Provide administrative support to the running of the Executive Committee.
* Work with the Chair of the Executive Committee to set meeting agendas and arrange meeting logistics for the Executive Committee.
* Communicating with the Executive Committee and relevant Scout Council.
* Preparing the appropriate administration for the Annual General Meeting, including collating the Annual.
* Report and Accounts for the Annual General Meeting.
And more
Though ‘Executive’ sounds a bit formal, it is not like that at all! We are a relaxed group of like-minded individuals!
This role is ideal for those who do not necessarily wish to work directly with young people but would like to help to support and develop Scouting a couple of hours or so a month.
A key part of the Centre Volunteer Role is welcoming people with cancer and their families. That first impression sets the tone for their visit.
Volunteers welcome visitors in an informal and friendly way, they chat to help visitors feel at ease. They introduce visitors to an appropriate member of staff. They often give the visitors a tour of the centre and let them see the timetable available. Volunteers also help to keep the centre clean and tidy for visitors arriving.
Don't drag your feet! Join our fantastic team of committed volunteers who come from all 'walks' of life and volunteer for lots of different reasons.
Due to Covid-19, appointments only available in Kirkcaldy at the moment.
You will be helping some of the thousands of Fifers who struggle to cut and file their own toenails for numerous reasons and need some simple assistance with this as well as applying cream to their feet and ankles afterwards.
No experience is necessary, all the training and support you will need is provided. Our sessions are friendly and informal and normally take place in several locations across Fife. (Currently all appointments are being held in Kirkcaldy due to covid) If you can you commit three hours or more at least twice a month, we will train and support you all the way.
Quote from our website: I enjoy helping people and this has given me that opportunity, I have made lots of friends on my journey and I hope I have made a difference to many people.
