Baby Steps 20+ are seeking volunteer Trustees to support the work of the social enterprise. Trustees have responsibility to oversee the work of the project, decide on the strategic direction of the organisation, and ensure that the service provided is of the highest standard. Trustees meet monthly, and occasionally if required, more often. The team are friendly and welcoming and would welcome volunteers with experience in strategic planning, disability, recycling, social enterprise, or community engagement. Baby Steps 20+ offers paid employment opportunities to adults with a range of disabilities. From our social enterprise in Kirk Wynd in Falkirk, we receive donations of preloved baby equipment, which is then refurbished to a high standard to benefit local people. Our 3 core aims include: supporting local families, many of whom experience poverty, creating employment to those furthest from paid work due to disability, and diverting waste from landfill. We currently meet monthly on Zoom but we hope to soon begin meetings in person. We are looking for people who have the time to spare to get to know and understand our ambitions, and who then will work with other trustees, to provide a strategic overview and guidance to operational staff.

What’s a community kitchen? A community kitchen is a place where people can come to cook, eat and socialise together. While they are there, people can learn and share tips to reduce food waste and save money. The best bit is, all the food and cooking facilities are free – as long as they are being used to cook and / or help people to cook without waste. A community kitchen volunteer is someone who helps to organise and run the community kitchen and the activities that take place there. As a community kitchen volunteer you’ll be: • Cooking and eating with your fellow volunteers, and any friends, family and members of your local community who come along. • Organising and running a community kitchen. Your activities might include; helping to source and collect food for use in the kitchens, welcoming new people to the kitchen, teaching someone how to cook without waste or with less waste, helping to prepare and serve food for groups, demonstrating how to store and freeze foods properly, helping people to portion properly. • Helping with washing up (sorry, it’s unavoidable).

As a volunteer befriender with our perinatal support project you will provide listening and emotional support to parents who are suffering with low to moderate mental health issues or are identified as vulnerable to developing mental health issues in the perinatal period. This support may be through telephone calls, home visits, group work or support to access other local services. What will I be doing? Offer regular listening and emotional support to reduce social isolation and to help mum be more emotionally available for her baby and other family members. Observe how mum responds to her baby and offer guidance if required. Help mum take the baby and other children outside of the home so they can access services they need – i.e. health services, shops, parks and children’s centres. Give mum support with issues which concern them, for example by signposting to organisations that can help with benefits and housing.
