Do you have an interest in pastoral care, some free time and a lovely, gentle dog? Then volunteering for Pet and Companion (PEACE for short) could be for you and your furry friend! PEACE is a charity providing Canine Therapy along with Pastoral Care for people in need of support and companionship, particularly: the elderly; patients receiving end of life care; students during stressful periods; and vulnerable women. Pastoral Carers and their therapy dogs (PEACE Teams) visit people in need of support and companionship in various locations, including: Care Homes; University and College campuses; and community hubs. Ideally, PEACE Teams will volunteer for a couple of hours a week/fortnight in order to build relationships with the people they visit. The PEACE dog helps to provide a relaxing environment (the basis of canine therapy), while the Pastoral Carer offers both a listening ear and a means of support, happy to talk through any concerns or fears a person may have (pastoral care). The role of a PEACE Pastoral Carer is similar to that of a befriender. All Pastoral Carers are therefore Christians, and are comfortable praying and/or discussing their faith with the people they visit, if requested. All PEACE Pastoral Carers receive training in Mental Health First Aid, attentive listening and dementia awareness. Volunteers will also become members of the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) scheme. Murton Trust is a registered charity and Murton Farm, Tea Room and Nature Reserve is also a popular visitor attraction based 2 miles outside of Forfar, Angus and currently has opportunities for anyone interested in volunteering. Do you have a few hours to spare? Would you like to get involved in helping Murton Trust? As an adult volunteer with us you can share a particular skill you have whether that be organisational providing office support, photography social media, estate management & animal handling. However experience or specific skill set is not needed as we will provide training to volunteers. If you have the ability to work independently this is highly advantageous however should you require a bit of support this is also available for limited number of people too. If you are interested or would like to find out more please get in touch.

Would you like to volunteer with us during the school holidays? We require young people to work on the farm, welcome visitors to the site and support delivery of our October holiday event programme. This work will be varied and include looking after the animals, litter picking, giving directions to visitors, signing in visitors to events, helping with woodwork preparation for events, maintaining our nature reserve and general preparation for events. We require help all 16 days from the 30th September. We appreciate that young people will have family commitments and wish to spend time with friends so there will be no particular work pattern required. There will be an element of training required so we would hope that any new young person to Murton can attend for at least 4 days over the 2 week period. Placement will be 10.00am to 4.00pm, although for those that are reliant on public transport, we may be able to make allowances. Young people will receive a t-shirt, a free lunch and snack for each day they are with us. We are keen to support as many individuals as possible that will benefit the most from being with us, particularly those from Forfar and Kirriemuir where transport is likely to be easier. Friockheim Park Community Volunteers Have Been Successful In Getting Trees From The Woodland Trust For Planting In & Around Friockheim: Small Hedge (30 saplings) Medium Wildlife (105 saplings) Large Wildlife (420 saplings) This Will Be A Massive Undertaking & Require Some Extra Help Planting All These Trees! Tree Delivery Will Be In November 2023, Planting Will Take Place Between Then & March.

As a Voluntary Farm and Gardens Volunteer you will become part of a team within our farm and gardens, set in beautiful surroundings 5miles outside of Aberdeen city centre and close to the Deeside Railway line. The opportunity does not require you to have previous experience, we just ask that you are caring, patient and willing to help our pupils, have an interest in people and different ways of communications. Please note- our farm cares for cows, pigs, goats, hens and alpacas. Our pupils age from 12-25 years old and as part of your position, you will be with them when they attend the farm and gardens as part of their personalised daily routines and assist them with their tasks. Training provided in induction and support given throughout the volunteering time within Camphill School Aberdeen.
