About us
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland and a seasonal lifeguard service. We are one crew – volunteers, supporters and staff – and we are committed to saving lives.
At the forefront of our lifesaving activity are over 9,300 operational lifeboat station volunteers who give up thousands of hours every year to save lives at sea, complete training, launch and maintain lifeboats, equipment and much more. The majority of our operational lifeboat station volunteers carry pagers and can be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their commitment to the RNLI and to their local community has a significant impact on their families who have to adapt to the highs and lows of living with an RNLI pager.
The RNLI Families Programme provides support to the families of operational lifeboat station volunteers and in this important role you will support the families at Buckie lifeboat station. You will make sure all families feel welcome and included and will ensure that they are kept informed about the support that is available to them. You will also gather ideas and feedback and share it with the wider Families Programme Team.
You will have the opportunity to use your excellent interpersonal skills when you meet RNLI volunteers, staff and their families. To carry out this role confidently you will need good communication skills and the ability to develop relationships of trust with volunteers and their families. You will also need an understanding of what it means to be a member of the lifeboat station community.
You will receive training to ensure you are fully equipped to carry out the role. You will be supported by the Regional Family Support Coordinator and the Families Programme Manager will also be on-hand to offer guidance when required.
This is a great volunteer opportunity for someone who is looking to use their current skills or gain new experience. If it sounds like something you would like to be involved in, and you feel you have the qualities or potential to be successful, we would be delighted to hear from you.
If you would like to find out more about this role, please call Ruth Bessant, Families Support Manager, on 07884 117369 or email families_programme@rnli.org.uk
Volunteering at parkrun is an opportunity to get outside, make new friends, have fun, learn new skills and to be a valuable part of your local community. We are always looking for new volunteers. This page explains how to get involved.
What would I do at the Event?
First, and most importantly, we never ask anybody to do anything they're not comfortable with. If you don't want a particular task, please let us know and we will happily give you an alternative job. Nevertheless, none of our tasks are too stressful. You could be marshaling, or using the parkrun volunteer app to record times or scan barcodes, operating the timer, or scanning barcodes using the simple Virtual Volunteer app. If you really want to do something in particular, please let us know and we'll see what we can do. To find out more, please visit our website https://www.parkrun.org.uk/girvanprom/ or have a look at our page on Facebook.
The core team: Girvan Prom parkrun happens largely because of our fantastic volunteers. The weekly team of volunteers are led by a small group of parkrun enthusiasts who form what we call the 'core team': They make sure the event is setup and packed away each week, the results published, the tokens resorted, event reports written and so much more.
Event Director - Moira McDowall. We're very grateful to the help provided by everybody, both now and in the past, who've helped make Girvan Prom parkrun happen.

Content Warning: This article mentions eating disorders
We are looking for 20 young people living in Scotland who have experience of any eating disorder (personally, or through supporting someone) and who would like a chance to make a positive change by joining Beat’s Scottish Lived Experience Panel. To become a panel member, we ask that you are now at least 12 months into stable recovery and are no longer seeking professional support. We are also keen to hear from young people who’ve supported someone with experience of an eating disorder.
Project information
🎂 16 to 17-years-old
📅 This project will run online via Zoom between September 2023 – November 2023
🗺️ We are looking for volunteers from all over Scotland
About the Project
The initial dates for the panel are:
- Recruitment selection session – Wednesday 11 October 2023
- Induction session – Tuesday 24 October 2023
- Session 1 – Tuesday 14 November 2023
- Session 2 – Wednesday 29 November 2023
The panel will work together to discuss their lived experiences of eating disorders (personal experiences or from supporting others) and ideas for how things could be better. The panel will decide as a group what topics are most important to them. Young Scot and Beat staff members will support young people to decide what they want to talk about as a group. Ideas for what the panel may decide to discuss are:
- Support for young people with lived experience of eating disorders in rural and remote areas
- Support at school when you or a friend or family member is experiencing an eating disorder
- How to help health care workers understand eating disorders better.
What you’ll do as part of the Beat Scottish Lived Experience panel
Dedicated staff members from Young Scot and Beat will support you throughout your volunteering experience. There will also be specialist support around eating disorders and response care for all participants provided by Beat staff.
You don’t need any special knowledge or skills to take part, just be enthusiastic to make positive change! We are happy to make reasonable adjustments to enable all young people to take part, and there will be an opportunity when you apply to tell us about any support or adjustments you need to take part fully.
