The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Barra Island is looking for volunteers to join the existing team in the role of All Weather Lifeboat Crew.
For nearly 75 years, an all-weather lifeboat has launched from Castlebay on the Outer Hebrides island, often into ‘diabolical’ seas (see 1979). Today the station operates the largest class of lifeboat, a Severn class.
The impact you will make
This role will help us save lives at sea by ensuring that our lifeboats are in a state of permanent readiness and crewing the lifeboat on service and exercise, under the command of the coxswain.
What you will be doing
Undertake training and maintain Competency Based Training as necessary to fulfil the role of crew member
Be on call for lifeboat ‘shouts’
Attend exercises
Contribute to the overall upkeep of the station, lifeboats and equipment

Live or work within close proximity miles of the station this would be especially desirable to allow daytime availability. You also need to be between 17 and 65 years of age

The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Invergordon is looking for a volunteer to lead the existing team in the role of Lifeboat Operations Manager.
Established in 1974, the Invergordon Lifeboat Station operates a Shannon class all-weather lifeboat. There has been a lifeboat station in the Moray Firth area since 1878.
The Lifeboat Crew are all volunteers, headed up by the Lifeboat Operations Manager and Deputy Launching Authorities and supported by a Shore Crew team. All boat and shore crew follow the RNLI’s national Competency Based Training Scheme and respond to pagers when there is a request to launch the lifeboats. The wider team includes volunteer fundraisers, shop volunteers and youth education presenters.
The impact you will make
This role will help us save lives at sea by carrying out the day to day management of the lifeboat station to ensure a permanent state of readiness for service.
What you will be doing
Authorise launch of the lifeboats
Provide leadership of the operations team
Ensure that all operational activities are carried out to maintain the lifeboats and all associated equipment in a constant state of readiness for launching on service

The aim of our telephone befriending is to help reduce the impact that social isolation by making connections with others. This is especially important at this time of COVID-19 Crisis in the UK.

Loneliness and social isolation affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Being or feeling alone can have a devastating impact on people’s health and wellbeing, as well as on communities, hospitals and other public services. Through just a few hours a week, you could provide a huge help for someone experiencing loneliness or social isolation.
-Support for people and volunteering during COVID-19 Pandemic:
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our befriending service to our older people has now transitioned from face to face to phone/video contact. We now also offer shopping, prescription collection etc. where necessary to the older people. Depression is also a major issue so our befrienders are needing to keep in touch more often than before to ensure their Befriendees are safe and sound and to offer any possible support.

There are opportunities to work front or back of house in retail operations in Leith, Stockbridge and Morningside from till work to merchandising and window dressing. The back shop is where all the preparation happens, with the sorting, steaming and labelling of items for sale. There are roles in social media cover, general housekeeping, admin, gift aid promotion, brand research and customer care. We run a friendly sociable team in a busy, popular shop and would love to welcome some new volunteers to join us.
