Police Scotland Youth Volunteers

PSYV is the Police Scotland Youth Volunteering programme that aims to strengthen relationships with young people, break down barriers and promote ways to make Scotland's communities safer. We're open to applications from young people aged 13 – 17 that wish to gain an insight into policing in Scotland and want to do something positive in their communities.

Each PSYV group consists of 24 young people who each give up their own time to volunteer on their communities. As a youth volunteer, you would be expected to complete the PSYV initial training programme which will prepare you for attending local and national volunteering events. The training contains multiple subjects across three units.

This training and subsequent local 'sessions' take place at a local venue on a weekly or fortnightly basis. During these sessions, youth volunteers will take part in additional training, educational inputs from the police and partner agencies as well as preparing for upcoming volunteering opportunities.

If you live in Scotland and are aged between 13-15 register your interest. You must attend weekly sessions and attend regular volunteering events in your community and occasionally other parts of the country.

Please note that not all groups are actively recruiting and spaces are limited in all groups due to the popularity of the programme.

Restrictions

Applications for Adult Volunteers are accepted all year round however not all groups will have space. PSYV groups recruit for Youth Volunteers in August/September each year and do not take on anyone aged 16 or 17.

Support

Taster details: As a PSYV member you have the opportunity to gain qualifications for the training and volunteering that you do. You can gain a PSYV Award with SCQF Level 4 accreditation awarded by the Police Scotland College. This is useful as you move into college, university, work and adult life.

  • Cancer Research Shop - Grangemouth
Our shop volunteers are helping us beat cancer right now! Between 2019 and 2020, 14 million volunteers gave 3.1 million hours of their time and sold items totalling £15million. These funds are helping us start new clinical trials and research treatments as we speak. If you volunteer at a Cancer Research UK shop, you too could make a real difference. Volunteering in our shops is varied, exciting and rewarding. No two days are the same and you get the chance to develop and use different skills. There are always new opportunities to keep you engaged and help you grow in your role. Some of the volunteer tasks in our charity shop include: - Serving customers and working the till. - Organising new stock and pricing items. - Displaying items. - Providing good all-round customer service. Fair Deal is a charity which was established 35 years ago to support people with a learning disability in the community, at home and to participate in meaningful activities. Our Help Yourself Grow Programme has been running for 9 years and is based in the heart of the community in our purpose built training garden. We deliver a variety of horticultural and therapeutic activities including seed sewing, potting on, planting out and harvesting, as well as making wildlife habitats, composting, weeding and seasonal arts and crafts activities. These interventions are crucial in helping people to develop develop life skills such as confidence, communication skills, team working as well as, of course, gardening skills. The role involves working alongside the workshop trainer to help support the engagement of the young adults who attend our programme. The programme is fun and interactive and is an opportunity for you to learn new skills and people, whilst helping up deliver the very best experience to our participants. Our small friendly groups run 3 days each week from 10:00 to 15:15, so opportunities can be flexible to suit existing commitments. Volunteer Companion
  • Care And Share Companionship
The aim of Care and Share Companionship is to provide support to people over the age of 60 who are living in isolation or loneliness in the Kirkcaldy area. We offer volunteer companionship to help improve health, well-being and confidence. Volunteer companions provide face to face, telephone or shopping support giving their time from 30 minutes to two or three hours. Going for short walks together, attending groups of interest, going to local cafes for tea/coffee or just chatting with a friend will build a rapport and establish mutual respect and understanding giving both the Friend and Volunteer a positive experience.
