Would you like to support people with learning disabilities to socialise and make friends?
Dates-n-Mates is a friendship and dating charity for adults with a learning disability. They facilitate events to provide members the opportunity to socialise, try new things and meet people and their work is underpinned by a human rights-based approach. Dates-n-Mates believe it is people's right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, to love and be loved.

As an Events Supporter, your role is to help members enjoy socialising in safe and friendly environments. Events include going to restaurants, pubs, cinema, tenpin bowling, day trips and walks. The events are sociable, great fun and your role is very rewarding. A large number of people with learning disabilities feel lonely and socially isolated. Your support will help to change this..

Events take place afternoons and evenings and usually last 2 hours.
Dates-n-Mates ask for a minimum of 2 events per month, are very flexible and aim to accommodate volunteers availability.

Organisation aims and objectives

We deliver a variety of social events and friendship opportunities in and around Falkirk for our members, with their ideas and input in the planning process. Events might include pub nights, meals out, bowling, bingo and parties. We currently also offer some online events for members too. Dates-n-Mates Falkirk also attends local events and festivals in and around Falkirk

2 events per month (Around 2 hours per event). Afternoons or evenings. Due to the nature of the opportunity, we ask for a 9 month minimum commitment.

Restrictions

Experience required: A volunteer who is sociable, friendly and confident and has excellent people skills. You will be a good communicator; kind and patient when interacting with people who have different communication or mobility needs. You will be able to interact respectfully with people from a range of different backgrounds. As you will be representing dates-n-mates, you will be courteous and professional as well as being reliable and punctual.
Travel details: Venues in Falkirk and surrounding areas
Minimum age: 18

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Public Transport costs will be reimbursed. Mileage rates of 45p per mile will be reimbursed.

They are looking for Cooks who can prepare simple cooked lunches for groups between 5 and 15 people. Groups meet once or twice a week but there is no need to commit to both days. Groups run from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm with lunch served at 12 noon; the cook can start at a suitable time to achieve this, finishing when clearing up has finished. Each venue has a good size and well-equipped kitchen. Lunch provided, travel expenses reimbursed, free parking at all venues. A Volunteer from Central Fife said - I really enjoyed volunteering here over past 10 months, it will be sad to leave, it's been a very meaningful experience, and I have learnt a lot.

Social Group Assistant

How can you have fun, gain confidence and help others at the same time? By becoming a social group assistant with Express Group Fife! Express Group Fife is a mental health charity, operating in Fife for almost 50 years. They provide social group activities and engage with people over 18 experiencing poor mental health. They are looking for a Social Group Assistants for their groups listed below. Activities involved: setting up the hall (tables and chairs, but not at every location), socialising with service users, serving tea/coffee, taking part/assisting in activities (e.g. board games, bingo, crafts). There is always a Group Coordinator facilitating the group and very often also a Case Worker who can work individually with service users when needed. Time: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm, lunch provided, travel expenses reimbursed, free parking at all venues. A Volunteer from Central Fife said - I really enjoyed volunteering here over past 10 months, it will be sad to leave, it's been a very meaningful experience, and I have learnt a lot.

  • ENeRGI (East Neuk Recovery Group Initiative)
ENeRGI SCIO is a mental health charity based in the East Neuk of Fife. Volunteers are needed to join its committee. You will be responsible for governing the charity, helping to shape policy and its vision for the future. ENeRGI is a SCIO registered charity established since 1995. Committee Members are asked to attend Committee Meetings, which take place once every two months, and usually last 1 hour to 90 minutes, and the ENeRGI Annual General Meetings, usually held in December. Committee roles available or you can remain as an ordinary trustee with just attendance and input expected. This is an opportunity to gain new skills and contribute to a great community project. Interested parties over the age of 16 are welcome to apply.
