Social Enterprise Cafe and Kitchen Assistants

Are you a woman who could give 4+ hours each week/fortnight to help support an exciting new social enterprise café in Broughty Ferry? We are based in Castle Green playpark, by the Castle and beachfront and are open Fri/Sat and Sundays for barista coffee, freshly prepared vegetarian and vegan foods and lovely home bakes.

We are a not for profit and are run by an all female professional team set up to support our women volunteers. Our cafe can be very busy, so if you are interested in a career in hospitality or love local sustainable food, this is a great environment to be involved! Our youngest volunteer is 16 and our oldest is 79- we have a diverse community and we operate a 'kind kitchen'. There are opportunities for barista, professional cookery, customer service and till handling. We aim to build self confidence and self esteem through our community.

Organisation aims and objectives

Braw Tea CIC is a social enterprise with the ambition to support *disadvantaged women in Dundee. It will do this through the creation of a community café in Broughty Ferry that will provide training and employment opportunities. The social enterprise will support the women to build confidence, self -esteem, reduce social isolation and stigma and will support the women to secure future employment and economic freedom through gaining relevant transferable workplace skills. Our name indicates that we will do ‘good’, offer good food and will be based in Broughty Ferry . *The beneficiary group will include: - Women who face challenges through poverty, social isolation, poor educational attainment, mental health issues, domestic abuse, low risk women offenders, and refugee/asylum seekers. Referrals to the project will be made through working closely with identified third sector partners, the volunteer agencies and Dundee City Council Employability Team. This list is not exclusive, and we will work with any woman who may benefit from the support and training provided.

We will be open on Saturday and Sundays between 10-5 to the general public. We can offer morning/afternoon or all day volunteer shifts according to your circumstances/preferences. In addition on Fridays we will be closed to the public, but will use this time for training, mentoring, cooking and getting ready for the weekend. Ideally we would like women who can offer us at least 1/2 - 1 day per week and who are able to take part in the training to ensure we provide a safe and professional environment.

Restrictions

Due to the nature of the beneficiary group, many of whom may have suffered trauma and be vulnerable, the café volunteering opportunity is open only to women.
Experience required: • Motivation and reliability • Interest in good food/cakes/coffee • The desire to take part in the learning environment of hospitality • an interest in producing quality food and being part of a professionally run team with women from a diverse range of backgrounds

Groups run from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm with lunch served at 12 noon; the cook can start at a suitable time to achieve this, finishing when clearing up has finished. Each venue has a good size and well-equipped kitchen. Lunch provided, travel expenses reimbursed, free parking at all venues. A Volunteer from Central Fife said - I really enjoyed volunteering here over past 10 months, it will be sad to leave, it's been a very meaningful experience, and I have learnt a lot.

Social Group Assistant

How can you have fun, gain confidence and help others at the same time? By becoming a social group assistant with Express Group Fife! Express Group Fife is a mental health charity, operating in Fife for almost 50 years. They provide social group activities and engage with people over 18 experiencing poor mental health. They are looking for a Social Group Assistants for their groups listed below. Activities involved: setting up the hall (tables and chairs, but not at every location), socialising with service users, serving tea/coffee, taking part/assisting in activities (e.g. board games, bingo, crafts). There is always a Group Coordinator facilitating the group and very often also a Case Worker who can work individually with service users when needed. Time: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm, lunch provided, travel expenses reimbursed, free parking at all venues. A Volunteer from Central Fife said - I really enjoyed volunteering here over past 10 months, it will be sad to leave, it's been a very meaningful experience, and I have learnt a lot.

  • ENeRGI (East Neuk Recovery Group Initiative)
ENeRGI SCIO is a mental health charity based in the East Neuk of Fife. Volunteers are needed to join its committee. You will be responsible for governing the charity, helping to shape policy and its vision for the future. ENeRGI is a SCIO registered charity established since 1995. Committee Members are asked to attend Committee Meetings, which take place once every two months, and usually last 1 hour to 90 minutes, and the ENeRGI Annual General Meetings, usually held in December. Committee roles available or you can remain as an ordinary trustee with just attendance and input expected. This is an opportunity to gain new skills and contribute to a great community project.
