Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK) is the only charity the UK to provide support to the more than 60 types of muscle-wasting conditions.

Support muscle-wasting conditions which is a life-limiting condition affecting 110,000 children and adults in the UK. This is a flexible opportunity to fit with your schedule as and when you can support. You can do a few hours a month or give more time of support at set times. It is a great chance to meet new people in your community and build on your fundraising, management, organisation and communication skills.

As a Volunteer Collection box Co-ordinator you will support the Regional Development Manager in your region to raise awareness and funds for the charity by placing and managing collection boxes within businesses in your local community.

Restrictions

Travel details: This happens local to you and can do a lot of contacting businesses from home, but when you do travel, the charity pay 45p per mile for mileage claims.

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help with our shopping and prescription service. This essential service ensures that those struggling to get out the house or who aren’t fully able to get a shop for themselves can get a weekly shop and maintain independence and have agency of their own shopping. Volunteers will be added to a Whatsapp group where call outs will be made for the shops that week. If the volunteer is available then they offer to do the shop and a member of staff will email the service users details and shopping list, the volunteer with then do the shopping then deliver it the service users’ home then you will be reimbursed for the shop and your millage. The Meeting Place Service Advisor

We are looking for a friendly person to volunteer in our busy community café called The Meeting Place. As a volunteer your duty is to provide a warm welcome to all visitors. You will assist with taking food orders, ensuring visitors feel welcome, engaging with customers, assisting the kitchen team with clearing tables, keeping kitchen area clean, making tea and coffee and serving food. Welcoming and friendly manner, commitment to ensuring cleaning and hygiene measures are always maintained, work well within a team and willingness to help colleagues reliable and willingness to learn.

A befriender will be matched with an older person (50 and over) in their area that is isolated or lonely. They will spend time with them offering companionship to build their confidence and link them back into social activities. Many of our clients have very few visitors or people to go and see them so our volunteers spend time with someone whether through a cuppa and a chat in the clients home or a walk locally, with the hope that the volunteer will improve wellbeing, alleviate loneliness and isolation. We also run local friendship groups that the client can be linked into if able to get out and about. Some of the skills we look for in a volunteer are: An empathy with older people; reliable and trustworthy; being sensitive and supportive; flexible; Having a few hours spare each week; Being friendly; Being interested in people.
