Description

The aim of Care and Share Companionship is to provide support to people over the age of 60 who are living in isolation or loneliness in the Kirkcaldy area. We offer volunteer companionship to help improve health, well-being and confidence.

Volunteer companions provide face to face, telephone or shopping support giving their time for an hour or two per week / fortnight, going for short walks together, attending groups of interest, going to local cafes for tea/coffee or just chatting with a friend will build a rapport and establish mutual respect and understanding giving both the Friend and Volunteer a positive experience.

Organisation aims and objectives

Care and Share Companionship provides companionship support to people over the age of 60 who are living in isolation or loneliness. Support is offered by our trained, PVG checked volunteers on a 1-1 basis which may include an introduction to a local group of interest, weekly, fortnightly or monthly. We offer a flexible and personalised approach to address the needs of the person we are supporting, such as shopping, health appointments or visiting family or friends. We also offer telephone support and respite for carers. We aim to provide a service that helps improve health and well being to make people feel valued and part of their community.

Experience required: No formal experience necessary, being able to listen and have a good conversation is all that is needed
Travel details: travel expenses (mileage or public transport costs) are paid monthly within the Kirkcaldy and surrounding areas

HALLA-Harlaw Area Lifelong Learning Association 's free Breakfast Club, generously funded by NHS Grampian, is a heartwarming initiative hosted at the Kaimhill Learning Centre in Garthdee. Taking place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 8:15am - 8:45am this program ensures that children living in Garthdee start their day with a nutritious breakfast, setting a positive tone for their educational journey. The club not only addresses food insecurity but also creates a supportive community environment including activities such as reading a story together and mental health activities. To sustain and expand this impactful endeavour, HALLA is actively seeking dedicated volunteers to contribute their time and efforts by giving just 1hr per week (8am - 9am) during term-time. Your involvement can make a significant difference in the lives of these children, fostering a brighter and healthier future for our community.
