Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia? Erskine Care Home in Gilmerton, Edinburgh, is looking for compassionate individuals with an interest in dementia to join our team as Volunteer Companions for our Dementia Café.

Erskine is committed to providing specialised care, and we are seeking volunteers to support our Dementia Café, creating a warm and supportive environment for both residents and their families.

Your Role as a Volunteer Companion:
As a Volunteer Companion for the Dementia Café, you will be a source of comfort and companionship for residents and their families. Your presence and support on Saturdays, once a month or every two months, will contribute to the well-being and joy of those living with dementia.

Organisation aims and objectives

Erskine provides unrivalled support to Veterans in Scotland, through three care homes and a Veterans Village, comprising of 44 cottages, an Activities Centre, five Assisted Living Apartments and 24 Transitional Supported Apartments. Erskine’s strength lies in the very special blend of dedicated care, compassion and understanding we offer to residents and their families. Erskine care for nearly 1,000 residents each year; our care homes provide Veterans with the companionship of like-minded people. Erskine not only care for their Veterans – we care about them.

Frequency and commitment details

Weekly 45 mins to 2 hours

Restrictions

Experience required: Individuals with a genuine interest in dementia care. Compassion and empathy for individuals living with dementia and their families. Availability on Saturdays, with a commitment to volunteering once a month or every two months.
Travel details: Volunteers travel independently to Erskine Edinburgh [ out of pocket travel expenses are available]
Minimum age: 18

Expenses details: Bus and train fares and mileage costs up to £15 daily maximum
