You don’t need a medical background or all the answers – just a kind heart, a listening ear, and a little time to give.

Marie Curie is looking for compassionate, everyday people to join our Companion Team in Adberdeen

What does a Companion Volunteer do?
It’s simple, really – you’ll be there for someone.
You might visit someone and share stories, connect through hobbies/interests, chat about life, update them regarding local or wider activities. Sometimes just a conversation with a cuppa in hand provides a steady presence.

What you’ll be part of:
• Offering emotional comfort and conversation
• Help someone express what matters most to them
• Share helpful information
• Point them to local resources and services
• Support family members or carers, before and after bereavement.

You’ll receive full training and ongoing support from the Marie Curie Team, and you’ll be joining a team who care just as much as you do

Organisation aims and objectives

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement.  Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness they’re likely to die from. The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

Experience required: You’d be a great fit if you’re: • Patient and good at listening • Non-judgmental of others and friendly • Emotionally mature and steady in sensitive moments • Able to commit to 3 hours p/week • Comfortable using email and happy to complete short visit reports

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Reimbursed out-of-pocket expenses paid each month, including travel at 45p per mile for personal vehicle use or public transport costs with receipts.

They are looking for Cooks who can prepare simple cooked lunches for groups between 5 and 15 people. Groups meet once or twice a week but there is no need to commit to both days. Groups run from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm with lunch served at 12 noon; the cook can start at a suitable time to achieve this, finishing when clearing up has finished. Each venue has a good size and well-equipped kitchen. Lunch provided, travel expenses reimbursed, free parking at all venues. A Volunteer from Central Fife said - I really enjoyed volunteering here over past 10 months, it will be sad to leave, it's been a very meaningful experience, and I have learnt a lot.

Social Group Assistant

How can you have fun, gain confidence and help others at the same time? By becoming a social group assistant with Express Group Fife! Express Group Fife is a mental health charity, operating in Fife for almost 50 years. They provide social group activities and engage with people over 18 experiencing poor mental health. They are looking for a Social Group Assistants for their groups listed below. Activities involved: setting up the hall (tables and chairs, but not at every location), socialising with service users, serving tea/coffee, taking part/assisting in activities (e.g. board games, bingo, crafts). There is always a Group Coordinator facilitating the group and very often also a Case Worker who can work individually with service users when needed. Time: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm, lunch provided, travel expenses reimbursed, free parking at all venues. A Volunteer from Central Fife said - I really enjoyed volunteering here over past 10 months, it will be sad to leave, it's been a very meaningful experience, and I have learnt a lot.

Committee Member
  • ENeRGI (East Neuk Recovery Group Initiative)
ENeRGI SCIO is a mental health charity based in the East Neuk of Fife. Volunteers are needed to join its committee. You will be responsible for governing the charity, helping to shape policy and its vision for the future. ENeRGI is a SCIO registered charity established since 1995. Committee Members are asked to attend Committee Meetings, which take place once every two months, and usually last 1 hour to 90 minutes, and the ENeRGI Annual General Meetings, usually held in December. Committee roles available or you can remain as an ordinary trustee with just attendance and input expected. This is an opportunity to gain new skills and contribute to a great community project. Interested parties over the age of 16 are welcome to apply.
