All trustees collectively have responsibility for Play Midlothian, with daily management delegated to staff. Under the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act (2005), trustees must act in the charity’s interest, operate consistently with the charity’s purposes, act with due care and diligence, and ensure legal compliance within provisions of the 2005 Act and other relevant legislation. Key responsibilities include setting the vision and strategic direction, ensuring robust financial planning agreeing income generation strategy and budgets, ensure that income and expenditure levels are regularly compared to agreed budgets and that variances are identified and explained, managing assets and resources to ensure they are used only for the purposes set out in the governing document, overseeing business plan development and delivery, promoting a culture of evaluation and learning, safeguarding the charity’s reputation, adhering to its values, and commitment to equalities through comprehensive policy/practice.

From a small handful of girls who gatecrashed the first ever Scout rally, demanding ‘something for the girls’, Girlguiding has grown into a vast and vibrant network of members across the UK. We’re the UK’s leading charity for girls and young women. Across the whole of the UK, an amazing 100,000 volunteers help 400,000 girls aged 4 to 25 to share the life-changing experience of Girlguiding. When a girl becomes a Rainbow, Brownie, Guide or member of the Senior Section she joins a group of girls her own age and will be led by our carefully trained and dedicated volunteers. Whatever inspires her, whatever her passions and interests, we offer her the chance to develop her potential, make friends and have fun. Our volunteers do amazing things - some of which might surprise you. They go white water rafting, train leaders overseas, celebrate LGBT inclusion in their local Pride parade and sing along with 10,000 girls at Wembley Arena. We currently have opportunities for adult volunteers throughout Midlothian . There are 12 units in the Dalkeith area and many girls wanting to join. Units normally meet for up to 2 hours, one night per week. We have units meeting each night of the week and would like more adults to come along and help with our units so that more girls wills be given the opportunity to join . Rainbows are aged 5-7, Brownies 7-10, Guides 10-14, Senior Section 14-26. Volunteer playworker within an out of school care setting. Monday – Thursday. Supporting children with play activities and providing assistance to Senior Practitioners with set up and tidy up of the environment.

Volunteering with us is a great opportunity to further your skills, such as teamwork and communication, while building your confidence by working in a constantly changing environment surrounded by horses and a fab team. Volunteers help ensure the smooth and safe running of an RDA session by helping with pony care duties, leading horses, side-walking with a rider, supporting participants in on-the-ground sessions or assisting the coach during a session. There are also opportunities to help with fundraising, administration, and general maintenance. Every week is different!
